Black boy, brown boy, white boy,

It makes no difference in the dark,

And when I’m with you

It’s always night.

Street light is broken again,

Only the moon casting light through the bars

Dowsing us in shadowed strips of cool;

Just enough to see the laughter in your eyes.

Drenched in sweat and cum

And tangled together like Oroborus,

My mouth full of kisses and cock,

Yours dripping with cunt.

So full of love for the girl whose name you never asked.

But I know yours, Oakland.

Not a one night stand in a one note town;

Your teeth gleaming, your smile welcoming,

Your heart a complicated thing.

Oh, and I remember the weight of you

Holding me down, passionate and rough

Dancing like warriors, fucking

Like our lives depend on it.

And maybe they did.

Feeling muscles rippling beneath skin and scars

Strength that is more than bone deep,

Pain that is pushed away by the love I have always felt for you,

And love that is pushed away by the pain.

I still dream of you, Oakland.

Of how the moon glowed, illuminating

The bruises, black and blue

And the wounds, worn proudly.

The memory of how perfectly

We fit together.

Black girl, brown girl, white girl,

In the dark, it made no difference.

Nice nice nice. I'm happy to like and favorite, bumping you over 100 flames. That's incredible for a poem!

I grew up in Oakland and live close to this day. This piece is amazing. To capture a dark part of the city while keeping me hooked and then almost surprisingly aroused... You have a rare gift, my lady. Well done
I loved this piece for many reasons. I have my own personal interpretation of it, but prefer to keep it to myself.
Excellent writing, packs a powerful punch. Just loved this!!!

Well if I can get rostered onto the SFO route then I'm for sure going to check out Oakland. I've been to NYC and LA many times, but for some reason never fly the SFO route?
love this!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You captured raw emotion encapsulated in powerful energy. Brilliantly written! 5+
Awesome job. Loved it!
It feels like the experience of pain, ecstasy, love, sex, adventure of growing up in a place, in Oakland, and not the country club part either. I've never been to Oakland, but your poem brings out deep things. This is really awesome!
Wow, this is such a fantastic poem! Powerful and erotic. Bravo!
Wow Rach! Very powerful and exceptionally written!
Great job!
Not for the first time am I reminded of Dangerous Angels, in the sense of place with its mystic, harsh communion, the rough magic of danger and rapture intertwined, the mingling of myth and asphalt. A poem flecked and speckled with erotic images, but more like a hymn to something mysterious and crushing, a bigger self that voids sin and self,--ok, something like Whitman too, which is where this very American poem, in its romance and modernity, takes me!
This was really interesting. I enjoyed the juxtaposition of man and city and woman. It was difficult to tell which one you were talking about, but that just made it all the more interesting. Congrats, girl, and keep up the good work!
Well speaking for all the "Yellow Girls" out there I sorta totally LOVED this poem GF!! You're an awesome writer!!
Well done, intriguing and gripping. I loved the story you've told.
What can I say that hasn't already been said? Well - I enjoyed it! And read it several times to catch the different nuances of language and mood. x
Wow that is amazing! So glad you sent this to me to look at, 5 xx
You made this Chiefs fan think differently about Oakland. Could well be any town.
This is why I never have a problem when you draw my attention to your writing. Once again, incredibly well written and paced. A pleasure to read.
Now take a bow, will ya?
