Noooo! I'm still finishing mine, and I expect there will be a few more last-minute entries. I think the usual number is around 50.

This one is quite a challenge, I think. How to get the foolishness into the story, without spoiling the eroticism or the story structure. But the challenge is one of the reasons for entering, plus the fact that competition entries tend to get more reads.

*cracks whip*

Stop hanging around the forums and get to it, Nicholas.

Only 72 hours to go.

Though possibly more than that or less than that because I have no idea what time in what international time zone the competition ends.

So, quill to parchment and get scribbling.

Forty-five - what is the usual number for these competitions? Yeah, there are a lot of last-minute entries, but it does say May 6, so give them the time. Nobody said you have to read them all - I don't even try! And you can still publish your other stories unless you think this is too big of a distraction - too many readers for the competition only?

Too clarify, Mr LSL, I can't publish my stories because they either reference my competition submission or are based on a character within that submission, and if you read further up the thread you will see that you are not allowed to publish stories referencing or based on your competition entry for the duration of the competition.

Of course, I didn't have to read them all. I made an active choice to do so, and as Luca says above, hats off to the judges who do this because without them there would be no competition. Judging by the comments on the stories I am not alone in having read every single entry, so a virtual pat on the back to anyone else who has done it. If there are further entries I will also read those because that is the commitment I made to myself.

As authors and as competition entrants we all want to be read. Sometimes the reading was joyous and sometimes less so, but if you look at the number of views on your story, one of those would have been me.

I'm only halfway there — and the stories keep on coming.

Nooooooo!!!!!!

*rushes off to check*

*sighs in relief*

Nothing new yet today. Thank French Connection UK.

45 stories in this competition now and I have finally finished reading them all.

And if that doesn't deserve a badge, I don't know what does.

Any chance of just closing the competition early to stop any more entries? I don't think my head can take any more.

Please xxx

Besides, I've got 6 stories I'm waiting to publish, none if which I'm allowed to do until this thing is done.

Yeah it would be way better if there were either more votes or more comments. I would not even care if a bad comment was malicious and rude, at least it's a critique of some sort. Anyway, thanks for the encouraging words everyone.

And whilst I'm on a roll ...

Lush is a community that thrives on reciprocity. You read my stuff and leave a comment, nice or otherwise. I read your stuff and leave a comment, nice or otherwise.

Many of us are less good at doing the second part of that contract, me included, but if you expect readers/authors to read and comment on your stories then you should make more effort to read other people's stories and leave *them* comments. If I review your activity on your profile, you haven't commented on a single story and have only voted on one story.

If you did that I'm sure you'd find that more people would read and leave comments on yours.

Ps. Calling the Moderators a bunch of Grammar Nazis probably hasn't helped your cause much either.

Just to say, firmdreamer012, that if you replied to the comments you receive on your stories (which you may well have done privately, but haven't publicly) readers may be more inclined to leave a comment.

Certainly, if I leave a comment on another author's work then I expect some form of acknowledgement from them regarding that comment, preferably in the form of some reply. If an author doesn't demonstrate that courtesy then I am unlikely to make the effort to comment on any of their further submissions. The fact that you don't reply to the comments that you receive would stop me from commenting in the first place and if I had previously left a comment that has been unacknowledged then I probably wouldn't bother reading any more of your stories.

That may sound harsh but a small amount of common courtesy goes a long way in this place.

I've always found it is best to keep your delusional champagne flute brim-filled. That way it's less fragile, less prone to fracturing at every casual comment.

To be honest, I don't believe most Lush authors really would appreciate critique reviews of their submissions, and I don't feel the comments sections are necessarily a suitable venue for such.

I'm sure one of my colleagues will correct me if I am wrong but I believe that would still have to wait until after the competition is closed.

So not until 7 May.

But of course I can still write my trilogy about his brother, Strawberry Fool, and his two friends, Fruity Compote and Lemony Meringue, and their road trip adventures going from Basingstoke to Honiton on the A303 on a Bank Holiday Weekender.

You would have to wait until it is closed.

And if I wrote all new material utilising a character from my entry?

For example: 'The Further Adventures of The Gooseberry Fool, My Sexual Escapades at a Landfill Site'

How about that?
I am considering writing a 'spin off' series based on a segment of my competition entry, which would include 'reworking' that segment into a new story and format. Is it acceptable to do that whilst the competition is still running or should I wait until the competition has closed?
Congratulations Chris on an incredible achievement.

*bow down genuflecting gif thingy*

Emoji, that's the word.
Congratulations SBB. Though I've only read the 1st in the series, it was totally engrossing and brilliantly written. Completely deserving of an OS Award all by itself xxx

you don't like the comps, don't enter.

This

Or you can enter because you like writing stuff and you have an idea that fits the category and maybe you can produce something you are proud of as an author.

And maybe other people will like it or maybe they won't.

Comme ci, come ca

Anybody entering to win, to get on a podium, or to be selected amongst the additional recommendations is starting with the wrong motivation.

Y’all

cumgirl’s submitted an entry of vibrant vacuous verbosity.

My meager effort to replicate her style here in this comment doesn’t do it justice.

Check it out.

'Vacuous'. Now that is a word I can certainly agree with.

Vehemently virtuous, whilst vigorously vacuous with nary a hint of voluptuousness.

Though plentiful perky, pokies.

Thank you, very much for the kind recommendation.

Well, it looks like I’m first on the board.

I hope this competition doesn’t dissuade too many people. Last time, we had a lot more entries five days in {25 → February 3-7, 2021}.

Maybe people are confused by the word count. Just know that 5,000 is the maximum. My entry came in at 2,048 words, nearly 3,000 less than I could have used (but didn't need).

I want to see many more writers’ takes on this topic.

I've done my 5,000 words. Just need to do a grammar edit. Then fingers crossed and Moderators approving they'll be another entry.

as long as it's a stand-alone story, totally within the rules. smile

I'm probably being a bit dumb, so you can use characters or a format you've developed in a series just as long as the story itself works as a standalone entity?

Have I got that right? If not, I've got a 5000 word story going free to a good home.
Hi Kimmi

I believe that you are asking the wrong question, that your question contains within it two separate questions that need to be considered.

The first is: 'How responsible should writers be for the content within their stories?'

I feel that is only once you have satisfactorily considered that question that you can begin to consider the separate question of readers and their responses.

How incredibly frustrating.

Thank you for your reply, Jen xxx
As the second named author on a co-author publication, I've not received a notification about its publication and am not receiving any updates regarding it via my Timeline. Is this normal?
Thank you, Jen, for your considerate and prompt response.
Hi

It appears that Flash Erotica is being excluded from the Quick Reads tab on the front page. It's probably something to do with the word count assignment. As such Flash Erotica is not appearing in either Stories or Quick Reads and can only be found on the All tab.

Thanks for your time and assistance.
