I've written stories before, but never anything of an erotic nature. I'm worried that anything I produce will come across as naive or ill informed, so I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on how to bring across the best experience for the reader. Thank you in advance

Imagination goes a long way. I actually published an erotic story or two when I was a virgin. Of course, writers can learn a lot by reading the works of others. There are thousands of stories here and many ways to access them.

True dat.
I say just follow your fantasies. Write about the thing(s) that turns YOU on the most - don't try to please your readers. That'll ensure it's passionate and give it a unique voice. The more you write, the more you can explore.

Seconding Chris' recommendation. If you want to see what goes well on here, start with the Editor's Picks and Recommended Reads. Going through the entries of a competition that interests would be good, too, since those usually attract some quality writers.
I have done far more sexually in my imagination and therefore in my stories than I have in life (I have had a pretty vanilla sex life). Do a bit of research. Write down the fantasies that come to mind, esp. ones that turn you on. If they get your motor going, they will probably do it for others, too.
And don't be afraid to push your boundaries a bit. Erotic writing is about fantasy and fantasy lets you safely explore ideas that you might not approach with a 10' pole in life. I have some B&D (not really much S&M) in a few of my stories and the likelihood of me doing it for real is pretty slim.

Thing is that I am not a particularly sexual person, and I more just wanted to challenge myself by writing things of this nature. Does experiencing more in real life help with this?

I think it's more important to have a good imagination than it is to have a wide range of sexual exploits. Write for yourself and if YOU like it, be brave enough to submit it. The readers and authors here on Lush are very encouraging! Lots of authors are willing to proofread/edit if you need another set of eyes to look at your story before you submit it. Don't be afraid to reach out.
Definitely read stories from multiple genres. Reading helps you get a better feel for pacing and flow.
Once you DO submit a story, go into the thread about self promotion and let people know you have something you'd like them to read. And, by all means, post the link here in this thread so we can all read it too!!

I agree 110% with what Verbal says. I forgot this simple idea and for 9 months I keep trying to write what I thought others wanted to read. I read his simple advice and remember who I am writing for. Now all I can do is thank him from the bottom of my heart. I read this, realized what I was doing and wrote a story that night. It is posted and doing very well. All because Verbal helped me remember who I was truly writing for. Thank you Sir. I owe you a lot more than I can even say.Write for you, make yourself happy. Then others will find you and see what you can truly do.

So this advice is a bit contrary to what has already been proffered. Write as if what you are writing is not erotica. Proof it for grammar and spelling, weedwhack extra words without mercy, and make the sex incidental, a sort of garnish.
Think about your favourite writers and then think about why they are your favourite writers. In my case, if I am turned on by what I am writing, if I am aroused at all, then I stop and walk away....sometimes to return, sometimes not. My end goal, always, is to capture and envelop and arouse the reader--and what captures and envelops and arouses me may not be the same as my end goal.
Myself, I am deeply influenced by Nicholson Baker--his Vox, U & I, and Fermata are snapshots of existence, with sex. Other influences include Boccaccio and Hemingway, Roosevelt and Krakauer, Alexie and Dorris. These don't have to be yours, any more than they have to be anyone else's influences. It's whatever works.
FWIW, my first story was written for a comp--I had never written erotica, nor read true erotica, prior to writing the story. It was accorded a Recommended Read. It's less than 500 words. Check it out: My Favourite Word

I love Vox. I've stolen from Vox, to be absolutely honest. You ever read his The Way the World Works? Non-fiction, but as excellent as his fiction.
I have a children's book by him - The Everlasting Story of Nory - but I haven't read it. Yet.
My own biggest influences is Elmore Leonard. Fast and funny, pitch perfect tone, and the best writer of dialogue in modern American Lit.
