Paul McCartney.

I almost killed him. He was standing behind me at a bedding and linens store in Beverly Hills (I was on vacation and he was shopping). I turned quickly and walked right into him like a linebacker. I apologized. He slapped me. I punched him in the throat. He kicked me in the nuts. I Hulk smashed him between the shoulder blades. He finally fell.

None of this is true except me almost knocking him over.

Well, not the most famous, but a terrific coincidence.

Jonathan Raban, author of Passage To Juneau and Bad Land, among others, happened to have his sailboat, the Penelope, featured in Passage To Juneau, in a slip with an open slip next to it when I was moving my sailboat from another slip. So I had my girl transferred to the slip next to the Penelope. Now, at the time, I wasn't 100% that this Penelope was Raban's Penelope, but I knew that he had recently moved to Seattle, and I took an educated guess. Figured that if it wasn't his, oh well, no great loss.

Turned out it was his Penelope, and it turned out wonderfully--nothing like talking books and barnacles. Ended up with signed 1st/1st editions of...yah, pretty much everything he's published. Lovely man and really good at polishing teak.

Oddly, a lot of the famous or semi-famous people I've met and gotten to know are from the marina. Paul Allen (RIP) was wonderful, caring and kind, sending the crew of his Tatoosh over to secure my lines, among other things. The crew of the Northwestern, of Discovery's Deadliest Catch, and a handful of others.

I've met, and sometimes known well, a number of famous people. Michael Corcoran (character actor who bought me many a drink), Robin Richmond (host of The Organist Entertains, drank in my local), Dennis Waterman (actor, singer and a passenger in my cab). The most internationally famous person I can think of was (and probably still is) Kate Bush. She was recording at Abbey Road Studios, where the Beatles recorded Abbey Road. And yes, the Beatles included Paul McCartney, the man Ping tried to kill. Anyway, twice I was called upon to pick up Ms Bush and her boyfriend and take them home. Sadly, not my home. I would so have liked a threesome with them.

Looks like we're in for a nasty spell of wether.

We met John Bongiovi behind the side stage at Olympic Stadium in München 2011.
He talked with us at the barricade for almost 5 minutes...

Who is the most famous person you have ever met?

I lived and live in a small town with a large equestrian presences and a major steeple chase horse race. Back in the 1960s I've met Mrs. Marion DuPont Scott, William F. Buckley Jr. and his brother Reid, who still lives here and teaches art classes from time to time.

However the two most famous, at least to me, who I've had the opportunity to work with and lift a few beers are:

BMCM/MDV Carl Brashear, the first black US Navy Master Diver.

EMCM/MDV Mary Bonnin, the first female US Navy Master Diver.

I met Barack Obama back when he ran in 08. So did my kids. Gotta admit, he has an INCREDIBLE magnetism in real life. And he wasn't even President yet.

John Cuzak bummed a cigarette from me and bought me a beer at a bar once.

When I worked at Rockefeller Center I met Maria Schriver, Al Roker (got a stink look from him), Penn Gillette (elevator ride, VERY nice guy), Joan Collins (also the elevator, she was scary looking, and had a half an inch of make-up on), and I saw Robin Williams in the elevator (you spend lot of time in elevators at 30 Rock).

Working in the hotel business I’ve run into quite a few but the ones I actually spoke with wile driving them either from/to the airport were John Trovolta & Michael Jackson. John was very friendly sat up front while I drove I was a nervous wreck lol. Michael was quiet but by the time I dropped him off he was talkative he even stopped by the desk to say good morning to me one morning and the whole office was buzzing about that one.

In NY I met Eddie Murphy (sadly he was a jerk) Arsenio Hall (very fun guy) Heather Locklear she was so sweet and I swear the lighting above her booth at the restaurant made her look amazing not like she needed it.

My all time favorites were Sylvester Stallone and Tom Cruise now I do have to admit with these two I completely forgot how to speak English. But they were both very nice thank goodness it wasn’t at the same time I would have passed out!

Oh there were so many but you have probably dozed off by now smile

Maynard James Keenan in San Antonio right after a Puscifer show. He came out and talked to some of us. I got a photo with him and a few CDs. He was very nice!

Also, Tommy Lee when I was in Vegas one time. He autographed the top of my breast, lol. I have a photo of that somewhere, too...

My Dad.

I met Zoe Ball, but at the time she was with her parents and it was her father Johnny Ball that was the famous one. Zoe was yet to make her own name in the public eye.

I bumped into Ernest Borgnine when he helped my sister when she stumbled on a kerb as we were leaving Wembley Stadium after the first American Football match in the UK between 2 teams from the American leagues. I was behind her and her bf when he reached over and grabbed her elbow to steady her. We exchanged and couple of words after, nice guy.

Then there were the years I spent meeting Andy Serkis 5 or 6 days a week... I'll let you draw your own conclusions

I met George Harrison's cat once. It was a Siamese and disdained cat food. It ate salmon and not the canned sort either.
