Might I ask why you are using Windows? In forty years I have never used a GUI-based server and I've never dealt with the aggravations Microsoft clients contend with on a regular basis.
My husband runs a Windoze PC because there is software he requires which is not available on any other platform. He stopped allowing automatic updates many years ago.
My recommendation would be some form of BSD or one of the commercial Linuxes. I have personally had great success in the past with FreeBSD and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Yes, I do. Fortunately, I had already developed a healthy mistrust for all things Microsoft, dating back to DOS. DRDOS was my preference.
Quote by Liz There's a nice little job for your to-do list, Gav. Just recode the site in PHP & MySQL.
That is how I run my websites. I have been told I should switch to a server-side version of JavaScript, but it's not happening any time soon.
I wrote my own Content Management System because it was the only way to do what we wanted. I am not very good at coding, it takes me months to do what others do in weeks, but I do get there. If I can do it Gav can. Whether he wants to or not is, of course, another matter.

Buy Xenforo or similar, add some appropriate add-ons. customize to taste. No coding needed unless you need to roll your own add-ons. The main problem will be pulling the existing data over, since they won't likely have an importer built for the code base you use.
During a period of being rather cranky about the blue site, I asked and there is a Xenforo add-on that would handle the publishing piece, while XF itself would power the forums. I imagine there are ways to incorporate the Tube, Chat, etc. as well (in fact, I'm fairly sure there are chat add-ons).
For the record, I'm running XF on shared hosting. Apache web server, MySQL database. And, yes, it's mostly written using PHP.B5onVYAP6t8LHmgG

I also getting general error when I try to access my mail or profile etc. Seems only forum and being able to read stories is working. Does anyone know what's causing the error? I am guessing it may be a site or server issue...

Currently getting General Error on all but Forums, Home page (I haven't dug into other story tabs) and profiles, both mine and others. Started about 0100 BST
It's odd. Profile pages and stories on the main domain are fine, it's just any /membership pages that are affected, it seems. Not seen this one before. Hope gav has some ideas!
Please browse my digital bookshelf. In this collection, you can find 112 full stories, 10 micro-stories, and 2 poems with the following features:
* 29 Editor's Picks, 74 Recommended Reads. * 15 competition podium places, 10 other times in the top ten. * 21 collaborations. * A whole heap of often filthy, tense, hot sex.
Please read and enjoy. If you really enjoyed a story someone has written; how about clicking on 'Like' and/or 'Favorite'. Why not leave a comment too?

Main site seems to be broken again. I can get to the forums and other sites that run as their own domain or subdomain but mail, profiles, stories, etc. that run under lushstories.com/whatever are erroring out.
EDIT: Actually, they are hanging now instead of erroring out right away so maybe a reboot is happening?.
EDIT 2: Now they're giving a 503 error.

Having problems getting to pages referenced above again, FYI. No error, just hangs.

The hamsters have escaped again.
For the past couple of hours everything on the main site is returning a time out.
Forum is working, other than the avatars, which I understand are sourced from the main site.
Other sites I use are all still working. Maybe when someone gets in they can kick the cage.
Truth: We upgraded to squirrels from hamsters a few months back, and it really isn't working out quite as we'd planned. Tails getting tangled in the wheels and all. Plus squirrels are surprisingly agile and wow, they bite.
Your kindness in bearing with us as our crack IT team sorts out this mess is much appreciated.

What I truly appreciate is that even if the site is down, I can still get to Rumps and order a beer., which is mostly what I do here anyway. I assume it's because the forums have a different URL. Anyway it's cool! Lush being down doesn't even affect me that much.
