I'm not sure I'd call it truly obscure, but A Night to Remember (1958) is far better (and at least an hour shorter) than James Cameron's 1997 magnum opus - regardless of how much money and technical prowess he put into it. The earlier movie demonstrates that the sinking itself is so dramatic that there is no need to embellish the story. Honor Blackman, not as famous then, has a small but memorable role.
