Writing poems for you
Was once so easy for me
The words pouring out
Into black and white font
Emptying the contents
Of my heart into stanzas
However, now it feels like
There are no words left
In my simple vocabulary
To adequately express
How your selfless love has
Transformed my world
Creating a world of our own
Inside I once felt so empty
My heartbeat echoed loudly
A sound both so foreign yet
Familiar in it’s aloneness
I ached of a painful emptiness
Desperate to fill the void
My path to you was tangled
A jumble of wrong turns
Every failed relationship
Bringing me closer to you
What I am trying to say to you
Is that the journey was worth it
Every turn taught me a lesson
I wouldn't change anything
The heartache and loneliness
Are both now a vague memory
In your embrace I am now safe
Each kiss heals the old scars
In each stolen moment alone
Our connection intensifies
Filling the once empty space
With an unconditional love
The type of love I once
Deemed myself naïve for
Believing it even existed
If my words seem inadequate
A vain attempt to translate
Our love into an assortment
Of twenty-six simple letters
Strung together into words
I will promise to spend forever
Showing you the incredible way
You have forever changed me
Rest your head on my chest
The echo of loneliness is gone
It is merely a forgotten sound
My heartbeat now plays a song
Only you know the words to
No matter how hard I try
The only words I can find
To explain the way I feel is
“You are loved”
I will whisper these words as
My body entwines with yours
Hoping you will come to realize
I have never known anything
More true than these words
When whispered in the darkness
They silence everything else
The world around us fades
And all I hear is our melody
Where once there was silence
