Your post just made me think of the movie P.S. I Love You... THATS what a man with a year to live would do for the woman he loves...

I actual prefer the book, having read it several times before seeing the film, I just didn't think the film matched up to the book, but then I think that is mostly always the case. If you enjoyed the film, and haven't read the book, then I highly recommend it.
I have only recently become a moderator, and before I started volunteering I hadn't realised quite what was involved. I think the team do an amazing job, and make Lush the fantastic site it is.

As with most things in life there are good and bad sides to being a moderator. Having to remain polite when you receive a nasty message from someone who is unhappy about the rejection of their story being one of the more difficult aspects of volunteering.

Situations like that are easier to handle, when you also get the great side of being a moderator, that includes being thanked by the authors. As my other fellow moderators have said, giving thanks isn't a must, but it sure is appreciated.

I see how some people would look at it as a compliment, backhanded one, but a compliment... I think most people would look at it as you would rather spend your last days on this earth with someone you divorced and don't love rather than be with the one who loves you...

I agree that it's a backhanded compliment. Putting the fact that it's a joke aside, I think it makes him pretty selfish. He's going to be dead in a year, so instead of thinking about spending the time helping his wife, he thinks of a way in which he can make himself want to die.

That's just my opinion though, I am sure others will have different views.
My music taste (like that of Seeker, and I should say many others) is really broad in it's range. It would be easier for me to list the types of music I don't like; Heavy Metal, Techno/Happy hardcore, Jazz.

If it's got a beat, chances are, I will be moving to it.

If your theory is that you can gauge how well you will get on with someone based on their music likes, then I guess it's sort of right, as the friends I have are as varied as my music tastes.

Your question was, however, favorite music, and I do have a favorite.

In it's broadest sense you could say my favorite is Electronic Dance Music, but I can break it down further than that.

My Favorite sub genre's are; Drum and Bass, Trance, House, Ambient, Trap, Dub-step

There are so many favorite artist that fit into those categories, but to list a few off the top of my head; Higher Contrast, Chase & Status, Nero, Goldie, Tiesto, Disclosure, Massive Attack, Leftfield, Prodigy, Jakwob, Estherwood, the list is endless....

I don't really know what it says about me, that I am a girl that loves a big bass tune.
My reoccurring dream is never exactly the same, but like Jack it always follows the same theme. I am always running away from something that is chasing me. I never know what it is, but spend the entire dream, running the streets, jumping over fences and climbing walls, and trying to hide from whatever is trying to get me.

I don't think it takes a website to explain that one. As I only have the dream when I am feeling a little lost, and uncertain about life.

I know a lot of people think that dreams are just random, but it's always been my experience that it is my subconscious trying to tell me something, or something that I already know deep down, but am trying to hide from.
Such a great guide. I've read it again to refresh my memory :-)
Hey Secretlit,

I would be more than happy to have a look at your story and give a hand with the proof reading. I have been lucky enough to have some great lush friends help me out in the same way in the past, so I know how helpful it can be.

Send me a private message if you want my help.

After spotting a status from one of my friends with a screen shot of their kindle library containing mostly Lush ebooks; It got me wondering, what's the Lush readers e-book reading habits?

Here's mine; (think it show's what sort of mind I have! :-P)

I highly recommend any of the books on that list
If I read a story to the end, I tend to score and comment anyway, so it's not an issue for me. I tend to keep my comments basic, and nice. If I have any further comments to make I usually contact the author by pm.

I love getting comments on my stories, (good or bad - I'm trying to improve my skills as well) I haven't felt the need to set it so that the reader has to comment. I know some people don't want to comment, and I would hate to lose readers for that reason.

When I get some more time to read, I will be sure to give your work a look, and would be happy to send private feedback on what I thought.

Hugs

I love a good landscape picture, these where taken at sunset, and the last one was using the panoramic setting. All using my phone. Will pull out some better quality pics, taken with my camera.
I think all you need to do is look at the definition of the word cliche - a trite, stereotyped expression; a sentence or phrase, usually expressing a popular or common thought or idea, that has lost originality, ingenuity, and impact by long overuse.

The way I see it the reason things get over used is because they do the job, they work, people like them.

As an author I don't mind using cliches. I think it's a skill as a writer to take an idea or situation that has been used before, and make it seem fresh to the reader.

Ultimately you are never going to impress every reader, and everyone is entitled to their opinion. As long as you're happy with the work you've produced, I think that's all that matters.
Every Mod that I have ever come across has been fantastic, even when my stories have been rejected, they have always been so helpful. This has improved my writing no end. They all do such a fantastic job.

I've doubled check to make sure I was right, and Buz was person who verified my first ever story. He's been an absolute star ever since.

It such an amazing site!

I want to (one day) win one of these bloody competitions.
- If you don't win this month then I don't know what's going on with the world!

My goals for lush change. When I started out on lush I was only here to read. Then one day I decided to pen my own story. I'm sure every author who has ever posted a story will agree, that it is quite a feeling when you get good feedback, and lovely comments. It makes you want to write more, or at least it did for me.
The more I write the more I want to improve my story telling skills, my grammar and spelling.

It was never a goal for me to make top author or story pick of the month, but once you've had your name in that box on the home page, it fills you with a sense of achievement, and for me a new found confidence in my ability as a writer.

So much so, that I now have the belief that one day, with more work, perhaps I could publish an ebook of my own.

My goals have changed, but my love for this site hasn't.

Oh and of course there is always the goal of sharing my naughtiness through my writing, to hopefully bring other people a bit of joy.
I love it. What a great new feature.

I also spotted the other day, (it may have been there for ages) the shift invisible log in.

The site just keeps getting better and better! :-D
Hi,

I am not sure if anyone has ever suggested this, but...

I think a search bar in the friends list would be really helpful. It would mean not having to scroll down the list to find a certain friend. If there was a search bar at the top of the list, and as you started typing the friends name, it searches through the list and selects people with that name, like in the private message system.

If I think of anything else, I will be sure to let you know.

If you refuse to edit your work, then that's your choice, there are numerous authors who work hard at their stories and do their best to make them better and are glad when errors are pointed out so that they can be fixed and their story can be improved.

I have had several of my stories rejected, but have never taken it as anything other than a sign that I still have more to learn. I work really hard at editing my story, and it's very true what one winged angel says about how rewarding it feels, when you have fixed all the errors.

I enjoyed telling stories, but my writing skills didn't match up, I was embarrassed about my terrible spelling and grammar. I decided that I couldn't let this stop me, and am so thankful if anyone points an error for me. Thanks to my wonderful lush friends my confidence, and hopefully skills are growing.
It took me just over 4 minutes 20 to read it. I read it all properly and made sure I didn't skip over bits, had to re-read a few lines. It's getting late and my eyes are tired so I think with a fresh head I could do it about a minute quicker.
This is a topic that's really interesting to me. I am a new writer and my style is to tell a longer story, which allows me to create more complex characters and plot.

The previous series I wrote, I posted as I wrote it. I did struggle to get it written quickly, as I am sure most writers now, it's hard to find the time to sit down and write when life as a habit of getting in the way.

I have just started my second series, and although I thought it would be a good idea to write the complete series and then post it, after the first part was complete, I couldn't resist posting it, so I could get feedback on what the readers thought.

This has put me under pressure to get the next parts written.

I think if I ever write a series again, I will complete it before posting.

I've noticed that almost every comment that readers give me is just 100% positive. I have one story with 27 comments, and two, maybe three of those, have any information beyond the fact that the reader enjoyed the story. I don't mind getting good comments, but why is there so little constructive criticism or analysis? When you leave a comment, do you feel bad mentioning flaws? Or do you really think the story is just completely perfect with nothing that can be improved upon? I really want to grow and challenge myself as a writer, and it's hard to do that without readers telling me where to grow and what to challenge, so I'd really appreciate more mature comments.

Hi Matthew,

As a writer I agree with you that the only way to improve is to receive constructive feedback. It's not the only way to learn, but it sure does help. With this is mind as a reader I like to be as honest as possible. What I tend to do is leave my positive feedback on the story comment page, and then private message the more constructive feedback to them.

I am pretty new at writing myself and have been trying hard to improve my work. I am possibly not the most qualified but I would be more than happy to read your work and give you some feedback.

In summary, I write therefore I am a "Writer" quotes or no quotes...I am a writer of words.

Cheerio

I have to agree with everything everyone has said. There are sites set up if you just want to chat and cyber, and repeating the point that many have made that this is "Lush Stories".

Clum made the point that we work really hard to write these stories, and having spent hours myself sat penning my own work, I know this to be true. Perhaps if you actually tried to sit down and write a story, that is half as good as some of the writers on this site, then you would realize that it takes great skill.
Hey,
I was just wondering if you had particular time that you tended to come onto lush to read?

I'm pretty luckily as I work from home a fair amount, so I can read when the mood takes me, but I often find Sunday evenings is a favourite time for me to catch up on reading.

Men are more visual and woman emotional, so to appeal to woman more try to add more feelings and emotion into the story.

Any writers ever write a story, only to abandon it once you start editing/revising? I'm in a quandry right now about a story that I wrote intending to use it on Lush. For whatever reason, it felt great as I wrote it but now as I re-read and try to edit and revise, it's just not gelling anymore. Debating whether to start over just re-using the few bits that work for me, leave it for a few days or even weeks and then read it again to see if it just needs time, or just abandon it and write off the work I did already. I've already skipped over it and done another story just to keep my juices flowing (creative juices, that is) but that wasn't enough apparently.

Why don't you ask a lush friend to preview the story and ask them if they think it is worth spending more time on.

i am crap at picking titles, tho i do tend to go with the same method DD uses - something that isn't blatant and that kind of fits the overall tone of the story - that said, if anyone wants to take over actually titling my stories, i'd be ever so grateful smile

I agree totally with Sprite and DD, I find the tittle one of the hardest part. I wanted to find a something simple, that captures the feel and plot for that chapter.
