"Of people" is a prepositional phrase functioning adjectivally and modifying the noun "group".
You cannot use a prepositional phrase as the subject of a sentence.
We have our verb "are playing" (the present progressive tense form of the verb 'to play'), followed by another prepositional phrase "in the park".

I too have an accidental EP. I set out to write a story for a lovely girl who I wanted to make smile during a hard week. I took a lot of care (dont mistake accidental and quickly written for careless) to share my desire to make her happy. I think it showed throughout the story. I was rather surprised to receive the award though! It certainly made me smile.
