just a note. we really do appreciate people putting in the extra time to edit and clean their stories up before submitting them. while we are always happy to fix the odd typo here and there, we are not meant to be editors - that's up to you - you can either do it yourself or ask someone in the community to help you out.

it's been recently mentioned that the time for publication has gotten longer. looking over the que over the last few weeks and spotting multiple stories that have been sent back for corrections 2+ times and are back again, with some of the issues pointed out not addressed or ignored can be frustrating to my team as well as the writers who are patiently waiting their turn in the que with carefully edited stories. please, when a story is returned, take the time to make the changes required to get published and, if you're not sure what needs to be done, ask. we're always happy to help out in the regards, but we're not going to do the work for you. thanks. smile

also, a list of no-nos, for those who don't bother reading our TOS.

no scat.
no underage (under 16).
no non-consent/ .
no snuff.
no .
no fan-fic or celebrities.
no using song lyrics or book passages.
no excessive violence or gore during sexual unions.

also, the category is fantasies. if you send in an story say that it's true, don't be surprised when we send it back.

Hi, I am Lola and I have posted some stories waaaaay in the past.

Now I an thinking of posting something, but it is not a story, it is a chat with a memebr here. Of course completely anomynized. Some grave misspelling corrected, but I kept some of them to keep it realistic. I also have permission from my chat partner. Can I publish something like this?

Love, Lola

Hiya Lola,

We don't publish chat transcripts, even anonymous ones, but feel free to turn it into an actual story and we'll certainly do our best to help you get it published.
From the few interactions I've had with the writing mods they must have the Wisdom of Solomon, the Patience of a Saint, the Courage of a Spartan , the Tact of a Diplomat and the sharp eyes of a Surgeon.
To each and every one of you who are involved in the process of verifying all the stories we submit, you're all outstanding people and even from this remove. Thank you for the huge amount of hard work you put into keeping this wonderful site running and keeping us writers on our toes.
Whatever was posted is always meant in love and respect never to offend.
I'm also highly likely to have posted this from a phone so there may be typos or odd word changes, auto correct can be a pain.

I've been listening to my kinky pencil here's my current work

I put a little banner in here, it might change. I'm still messing about with it.

Do any other writers feel that there appears to be double standards when it comes to having stories published? One Mod will accept where another critiques quite harshly, I’ve read stories in the past that have been terrible yet have some how been accepted.

Anyway I’m currently in a cycle of being rejected which is basically pushing me to give up, I enjoy writing but I can’t seem to shake off the bad habits I appear to have which just means I’m writing but no one is seeing it. So what’s the point.

My advice, for what its worth, read published stories in your desired category which have received Recommended Reads (Blue thumb by story title). These are usually, without question, well-written stories. Also, I would start small. Perfect a 1000-word story before trying to publish a 5,000+-word story.

Also, define "terrible." Terrible because of bad grammar or terrible because you didn't like the subject matter?

Keep trying and best wishes!

Literotica had a bit of a makeover a few years ago but it was hardly a re-branding; an opportunity to improve and update the site wasted.

As to Lush. You seem to have had problems settling in, perhaps you'd been expecting Lush to be something it is not. When I returned after a break my stories were taking a week to get verified when the blurb said it usually took a couple of days. A verifier apologised and said they were inundated.

All Lit got was basically like lipstick on a pig. It may look a little more pretty, but it's still just bacon waiting to be made.

And I would not say it is "settling in", as much as pretty much given up because of the lack of feedback. Look, I really do get it. Things are backed up, too many stories and not enough time, we are all only human after all, and can only do so much. But I have read suggestions in here and on other threads in here that talk about this (I really do mostly return for the forum).

I can look at my story sitting there, and see it has 6 views. So I know it has at least been seen. But then... I have absolutely no idea. I have read about in this thread about a moderator one where they will discuss our stories and that we should be informed about this. Yea, it might be nice to at least know a moderator is going over our stories, or it is being kicked around amongst them for some reason.

I really do get it, but after a week of submitting a story where it seems to fall into a black hole, I kinda get the "Meh" feeling to be honest. My output is actually fairly decent in the last year or so, like around 10 chapters a week between short stories and my large ongoing work. Maybe 1 or 2 a week on short stories. And yes, I am actually one of those that does check the sites I submit to, and am thankful for any feedback (good or bad), and enjoy learning what others think. But checking for a week with absolutely no word whatsoever is kinda annoying.

"Hey, we got your story, it seems to be our backlog is X days."
"I am reviewing your story, it may be X days."
"Some of us are considering your story, but we have some issues or questions about XXXXX in it and we are talking it over. Please be patient as we work this out."

Look, that I fully and unquestionably get. But seeing 6 read it days ago then nothing, is like it got shoved to the bottom of the pile again. And I on average really do check all of the sites I post to 2 or 3 times a day (or more). I guess all I really expect is at least some kind of feedback. Even just a single sentence.
When you say you've been waiting 7 days, are these "Working" days or just calendar ones?
I ask because with the best of intentions the last week must have been a total swamp for the mods, what with Thanksgiving to deal with, competitions running and other things going on their personal lives.
The fact they're still standing and ticking through the queue earns my breathless respect for their fortitude.

If you're that eager to see where you work is, why not politely ask one of the mods to check the status and see if it's being actively reviewed.
Then again I'm only an iddy biddy writer out here so take what I suggest with a pinch of salt perhaps.

Is there a difference?

You have to realize, I write daily. If I am not adding to my long stories, I am writing short ones, or editing and revising older ones. I think maybe only 2 or 3 days a month for me are not spent writing in some way. And at least for me, finding another outlet to express myself helps with the PTSD and depression. A way for me to step outside of myself and my life, and imagine other things.

We fully understand your frustration. But, with the volume in the queue and more coming in each day, we would spend too much time giving updates and not enough time verifying the stories.

Gold and Platinum members do receive priority. If you are that anxious, you could always upgrade.

just to be up front here, with the holidays and the large increase of stories coming in (good to know people are being creative during the pandemic!) unless you're a gold/platinum member you shouldn't expect any stories submitted to go up any time sooner than a week. yes, i know it's a long time, but it doesn't stop you from writing while you're waiting.

a few notes:

it would help us out if you submit stories that are ready to go. it takes extra time to read through stories, detail the issues, and send it back and THEN having to do the same thing again. it basically doubles our time (or more, depending on how many times it's sent back). we don't mind fixing small errors, but we're not editors.

it doesn't take much time to write a thank you note when a story is published, it's always appreciated. we even have a forum thread for some of the nicer comments. it's very motivational...

What isn't motivational is...

threads like these are kind of demoralizing. we work hard to get your stories out, make sure they are something you can be proud of and people can enjoy reading. it's a labor of love. no one is getting paid to do it. often times it takes time away from other things and it's just as frustrating for us to have an endless que that, no matter how hard we work, never seems to diminish. frustrating and stressful. In light of that, to sign onto the site to what is, whether intended or not, a public trashing is kind of demoralizing, frankly, and it's not much of an incentive to attack the job with much enthusiasm. just something to think about.

I for one am deeply grateful for all the kind and courteous assistance I have had with my little jots. I am sorry that my compulsive doubt sometimes adds a further burden to a mod's labor. I always try to give thanks and gladly offer another huge hug to everyone making Lush Lush!

Trust me, I completely and fully get that. And I try hard to not sound like I am "nagging on" things here. I just said how I saw it, but did not mean to imply anything.

It is what it is, and I intend it only as a comment, not a criticism. After so much, I really take almost nothing personally, unless it has a gun to my head. Things like this? Ultimately, it really is not that important. "Que Sera, Sera" really you might say.

also, the category is fantasies. if you send in an story say that it's true, don't be surprised when we send it back.

Does a story specifically say it is only a fantasy?

Just asking for some clarification here, as if I write one but in no way say it is actually true and only a story, is that a "fantasy", or is it considered to be "true"?

the category is officially labeled " fantasies". we assume that they are exactly that so you don't need to put any effort into making that clear. Just don't start the story with something along these lines: "This is a true story of something that actually happened to me last year".

No need to specify that it is fantasy, just don't try to present it as true, ie. no statements about "this really happened to me" or whatever. At least that's how I have always understood it. My one fantasy story doesn't make any truth claims either way and got passed.

Ninja'd by Rach. But at least I was correct per her post.
