I am blindingly white. And from Iowa, which is as white a state as you can get. German, English and Scottish blood, mostly. My kids, who are adopted, are hispanic.

Actually Verbal I think Alaska is the whitest state. I'm so pale, I'm not even ALLOWED to put a swimsuit on! LOL! Tan isn't even in our vocabulary (I had to look it up just to spell it here!)
Being a Newfoundlander there is some Irish in my ancestry especially on my father's side, on my mother's side there is English and maybe Native (further research into my family tree is ongoing)

Half Dutch on mom's side.

At times I suspected that his wife came over on the Mayflower.
At best guess from what dad had said, perhaps a bit of German, English and what ever the cat dragged home....

White Kentuckian. My family members are all white Kentuckians from way back as we just keep marrying each other - keeping it all within the family as is the Kentucky way, you know. Ha! Ha!
White, family on both sides, mom & dad, came from the Carolinas via Kentucky. Going further back,... Germany on Dads side and possible England on Moms side.

My ethnicity or ethnic grouping ist Hessian German culture or me specifically I'm Hessin...smiles
Our family ist 100% Chatti tribe und direct descendant of the Anglo-Saxon (Angle und Saxon tribes)
who were the first organized farming settlements und culture to inhabit the areas now known as
Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, und Sweden, documented in archive
to about 2700bce und possibly earlier.
The Anglo-Saxon German language ist the major origin of the English und Dutch language,
Anglo-Saxon tribes were major cause for the Roman Collapse in 426ce, und they migrated to the current
United Kingdom Islands co-inhabiting with the first Celtic Briton tribes who were indirect descendants
of people from South American culture...
according to journal of the most recent Mitochondrial DNA testing anyway...smiles

I'm "Literally" one of the many different skin shades und physical characteristics of biological Caucasian Taxon,
or simply one of the many different races of Caucasian people thank you very much...smiles

No, I haven't ever been mistaken to be any of the races or ethnic groups you've mentioned, that I'm aware,
und I haven't any American Indian ancestry like many others here seem to be,
nor do I have any direct relationship to the original natives who inhabited the North American continent known as the Clovis people
und their descendants of Asian Alaskan und Canadian Inuit tribes.

Hey Ivanka,

Your Y-DNA Haplogroup wouldn't be in the I-M223 group would it?

smiles...You're lucky I saw this again. I'm not usually keeping up with my forum comments und don't have my "What you've missed on Lush" enabled either.

DNA study isn't really my discipline, but if the paternal grouping I-m223 ist the one that traces origin back to african ancestry?
Then I would think everyone ist in that group, if current genetic markers are correct, but I not really think my family had our genetic history traced that distant.
It may be more likely that we have record only for I-m423 paternal grouping, but I'm only guessing.
I know the genetic report I've seen ist mainly pertaining to only our direct relationship with the Chatti tribe und their direct relationship with the Angle und Saxon tribes which had finally joined as one during the first conflicts with the Romans.
It also had a branch of Anglo-Saxon combining with Celtic Briton, und their ancestry tracing to South America,
but that isn't relevant to me exactly.
Much the rest I know, family names, locations, etc., ist from my own toil researching und visiting archives in Denmark a couple of times,
every archive in Germany und Austria, Poland twice, Ukraine twice, und once to Bryansk along with all of the countries I mentioned before at least once,
sometime digging in boxes, looking through never ending documents, old manuscript, books, microfilm, und I've used a few online services as well...smiles

Sounds as though you would know much more than me about DNA study...smiles

Hey Ivanka,

Thanks for the response. I'm no expert by any means. I've been trying to trace my ancestry back and ran the paternal Y chromosome, which included the Haplogroups. And yes, it went all the way back into Africa. Following the mapping provided it came up into your region, into the Nordic area and into Briton. There was also some in the Iberian Peninsula. And from the write up, they were primarily farmers. For years my father thought our family orginated out of Bavaria as his mother's father had migrated from there. But, that's all we know except he shortened his name.

Anyway, thanks for the response and I enjoyed reading you profile, what a lady!

Sounds if I should get a more in-depth genetic report.
I do have such interest in finding additional information I've read in a research paper years ago referring to the Mycenaean's genetically similar und imitation of the previous Minoan culture.
Their supposed migration in two groups, one into the area of Crete, und another farther north telling of their adventure making boats, exploring und fishing around islands of a seemingly enclosed northern sea, hunting game, und farming their new settlements there ist very intriguing.
I haven't yet found additional documentation, but I think I'll contact the original author of that research paper if he ist still among the living...smiles

Yes I know of such frustration. This ist a common problem when researching things of the past sometime suffering many changes in phonetic spelling throughout history.
Such things affected from either a more recent demographic changing defined meanings by adding/changing prefixing/suffixing, shortening/lengthening of words, changing core word spelling, or simply making up their own slang words, und this especially relevant between different languages relating to location names und surnames, which can most often give you proximity of time-line, but instead these changes sometime cause it to become an impossible task to trace a lesser known but specific historical event if ya not know the how's und why's of these phonetic changes.
If ya can mail me the shortened surname I can possibly find it's true origin.
I can absolutely understand if ya prefer not however.
Unless ya can give me 3 shortened names to research so I not know which ist relevant to you...but it will of course take abit longer as well...smiles

Anyway, good luck on your quest und pop me mail anytime...If ya like?
Oh und thanks...smiles...cyasbyebye

Hey again Ivanka,

You are extraordinarily kind, but I wouldn't ask you to do that. One reason is our Germanic surname is one of the most common in not only in Germany but elsewhere. I have found someone in Australia with the exact name as my great grandfather's but no connection that we could find.

My DNA tests were done by Family Tree DNA a number of years ago. I only had one relative that matched me and we couldn't find any connections. Over the years it's grown to five. I had their Family Match Maker test and that only now has a little over a thousand names with tentative relationships at best. I've found quite a few from my mother's side and have been in touch with them. But I'm curious about my father's side.

I'm just more curious than anything else. So far no one else in my family is. But I do think it is kind of you to offer. I've only been on here a short time having come over from another similar site. The folks on here have all been great!
