I enjoy it...hate it for Ian! I'm never "scared" but because he practically lives on planes, I'm extra cautious now and will stay aware. He can sleep while I'm busy making friends with evvvvveryone ?

I absolutely am terrified of flying, never have and probably never will, but I'm going to miss out on some fun trips with my grandkids, perhaps someone can slip me something to zonk out during the flight...

I posted earlier--about two and a half years ago--in this thread. Nothing much has changed.

Still love flying, even those 14 hour flights (or whatever it is...as mentioned before, I tend to fall asleep immediately after pushback from the gate) to NZ, but I swear the TSA staffers become denser with each pass through. Same for U.S. Customs.

SecretSpice, if you truly need something to help you sleep on a flight (as opposed to a sedative, something like a benzodiazapine like Xanax or Valium, to help calm you down), ask your doctor for a hyper-short acting sedative/hypnotic sleep aid like Sonata (zaleplon), which you would take just before take off (well, depending on the length of your flight--your doctor could look at your itinerary and figure out when your should take the dose).

I was a military pilot so it's in my blood. By far the safest way to travel. Flight has shrunk the world and given mankind the truth of how small this world really is and how we have limited resources.

I'm in the middle. Don't fly that often, and love the convenience but hate being not in control.
A bit fearful of that. The airport crap sucks, but it beats a 3 day drive if you want to get to CA!

One of my biggest passions in life is to travel ... and flying is a big part of that.

I dont mind short or long flights. As long as the airline has a good entertainment system or if I have some good to watch on my iPad....

Wow, I forgot about this thead. Someone breathed new life into it. The job I have had for almost the last 4 years has required travel monthly on average. Thankfully I was wise enough to pick an airline and stick with them and their international partners because most of the things that people dislike are virtually non existent. Access priority check-in, baggage (your bags are the first to come out), boarding, lounge access in almost any airport in the world, blocked seats beside me (which is huge on flights 4 hours or more) make plane travel far less of a chore. There's nothing better than getting to the gate and there are 400 people wanting to board an A380 and you walk right on by all of them. Ok, I'll stop now. I still love to fly.

l have only ever been airborne twice, once at an air show, in a chopper joy ride, the other l was flown to my country's Capitol city, for a convention, from the Victorian state capitol Melbourne, to the Australian Capitol Territory, Canberra or the ACT, and on both times loved the experience, if l had the cash would fly some more.

I love flying. It can be such a dull, grey, rainy winters day, but once you get above those clouds it's sunny and peaceful. The views are beautiful- once watched a thunderstorm from above the clouds as we flew over Italy, it was spectacular! Transatlantic business class flights are lovely too, I wish I could fly like that every time.

I'm not the keenest on the security theatre at the airport, but I think everyone is in the same boat there.

If you ever end up on a flight next to me, move to a different seat - I'm a nightmare on planes, they scare the crap out of me. It takes a lot of willpower and vodka to get onto a plane in the first place and once onboard, I sit there quivering and gripping the seat (like that's going to help in an emergency). I'm terrible but I do occasionally put myself through the nightmare. How else can I see the world?

I used to be scared when it came to flying but now I do it so often that it's like it's nothing.
Side note: I haven't flown in 6 months and that's actually the longest I've gone without flying in five years.

I can’t think of a good tagline so this will have to do. Suggest a better one for me?

I love flying, but hate going through TSA customs. Once, when going to a funeral, an agent said "You look anxious." and continued to converse with me as I put my bags and shoes in through the x-ray.

Another time, the agent, probably thinking I was 10, (I'm almost 27, but look really young if you don't notice my boobage), was basically treating me as though I was actually 10. I've spent a few minutes trying to describe how I picked up on this, but it was a subtle thing, and while not as threatening as the first time, was still quite annoying.

The flight itself is nice, though, as long as people realize that the middle armrests belong to the person in the middle seat.

I fly a lot, I'm pretty ambivalent about it. I really dislike the hassle of airports/security/customs but I have had some amazing conversations at 30,000 feet. I do like looking out the window, sometimes you see amazing things. The aircraft I was in last week damn near crashed when it landed, it hammered into the tarmac then swerved wildly across the runway. I barely noticed but the guy beside me screamed. I don't like helicopters much, they can't glide worth a fuck and asshole chopper pilots should not be demonstrating to me that they can fly upside down.

I've never flown! And I'm honestly terrified to. I have many places around the world so I'm sure I'll buckle down and do it eventually...unless teleportation is possible before then!

In 1979 I married a man that grew up at his father's airport. He has been flying all his life. He spent 29 plus years flying for the US Air Force and Air Force reserves. He began teaching me to fly in the mid 80s. I have a single and multi engine land commercial license with an instrument rating. We have our own aircraft and flying is a big thill. We joined the mile high club in the early 80s and have renewed our membership several times a year. Occasionally we fly on an airline and that is enjoyable too.

Love flying. Got my fill for a while when my wife, twins and I flew to Romania this past June...24 hour trip...two long assed layovers, which were the worst trying to corral and entertain 26 month old boys. I have to give kudos the British Airways staff. They were great to help us entertain the boys during the flight.

I am mixed on this one now.

On the one hand, it is great because it means I am going somewhere on holiday usually. And it beats walking or driving smile

However, i could do without all the hassle at the airports, being weighed scanned, queuing for ages for passport control etc. And then there is the prospect of spending hours in a cramped spave with strangers and screaming kids.

As a means of transport, I dont mind it.

I find flying dull at best, and at times incredibly annoying. Sometimes you see cool stuff out the window, sometimes you get into a cool conversation. But mostly it's just a slog for me.

I disappear into a book and don't reappear until I've arrived at my destination. Try my best to ignore the whole experience.

Utterly, totally, irrationally terrified. The only way I'll board a plane is in an alcoholic coma and these days, you get turned away (or arrested) if you rock-up at the gate in that state. Hense, I haven't flown for a while.
