Halloween and Horror Competition

The Celts are thought to have been the founders of what is now known as "Halloween", around 2000 years ago. Their new year started on the 1st of November. The night before they enjoyed a large festival called Samhain which was a celebration of the harvest and the start of winter. It was also thought to be a time when ghosts would come out. The Celts would dress in masks and build big bonfires on the night of Samhain, and also put out food and extravagant offerings for ghosts.

Competition Theme

Our Halloween / Horror contest is all about ghosts, ghouls, vampires, the devil, demons and gods, legends of monsters and other supernatural and scary phenomena.

We want to see exciting scary stories of adventure, evil spirits, mystery and thrills.

So wipe the cobwebs off your keyboards and set pulses racing with your cold sweat and goosebump inducing sexy tales of horror and intrigue!

1st Place Prize: $150
2nd Place Prize: $100
3rd Place Prize: $50
4th Place Prize: A dead spider

Full details and dates can be found here >>

This is my favorite time of year. I love this theme and can't wait to read all the entries.

Awesome. Gunning for 4th place so the prize spider can be a companion to the one found in my bathtub this morning.

Please browse my digital bookshelf. In this collection, you can find 117 full stories, 10 micro-stories, and 2 poems with the following features:

* 30 Editor's Picks, 75 Recommended Reads.
* 16 competition podium places, 11 other times in the top ten.
* 22 collaborations.
* A whole heap of often filthy, tense, hot sex.

Could we make that 4th place an UNdead spider? Spider vampire for the win.

I just posted a ghost story on another site (non-erotic) so I am not sure I've got another one in me this year. However, I have an old idea that I may dust off and try.
I think we have a few writers who live for this type of story. I'm looking at G. And especially Vanessa. I'd love to see her face when she reads about this contest.

It should be great fun, as always.

This will push me out of my comfort zone. I think I will see if I can come up with something. No spiders for me please. I have enough with the one I recently found at my house. I know Vanessa and Jeff will be quite excited for this and of course G.

The announcement say under 5000, so I am assuming under 5000.

hmmm... so if I am understanding correctly, it's under 5000? I just want to make sure. I was never good at math...

No. What I said was, it's under 5000. NOT it's under 5000. Sheesh.

Sorry, let's be clear. Does that mean nothing over 5000? Have I got that straight?

I knew you would be jumping out of your panties.
This frikkin rocks SO HARD.

Don't let my mention of spiders in several places on Lush this morning lead you to believe I have a story idea.

So... if I write my story backward, starting at 5000, would that work?

Is it wrong that I want pics of this?

I suppose but don't expect me to read it that way.

Okay, I won't. Don't let my mention of a dark shape in a mask looming behind your chair with a machete lead you to believe I have a secret plan for winning this comp by having my friends Michael and Jason take out all the other competitors

I would like to suggest a live spider for 4th place. I know where several black widows live, and would gladly send one to the place holder. I'll also include the baby western diamondback from my junk room if I can find and catch him.

If a picture is worth a thousand words that's two thousand. Terrifying enough for the win?

Looks like we're in for a nasty spell of wether.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm....maybe this would be a good time to work on bringing a favorite character to life.

You mean like Frankenstein?

(That was partly an excuse to sneak Teri Garr into the thread.)
A big thanks to Liz for another incredible job on our competition banner.

That gal's got mad skillz. Not bad at design too!

Tough choice. Deadly spider vs. deadly snake. Snakes are less likely to freak me out, though and I think diamondbacks are prettier than widows. Best solution, of course, is to place higher than fourth so it isn't an issue.Ahox2tx1coPp33vf

Reminds me of the time someone said that they looked forward to me entering the family.

I said, "All of them? Damn. That's a lot of people."

Fortunately, she was older, didn't hear so well, and I was drunk. No one over heard. It could have been a lot worse.

Under 5000, okay so that means 4999 words from me then Rachel.

Though, as it pays to have a plot in mind before committing to write, lets just say I am not yet as enthusiastic as Vanessa.

I see from the announcement that the Celts are thought to have been the founders of what is now known as "Halloween", a large festival called Samhain which was a celebration of the harvest and the start of winter.

End the cultural hegemony of the north I say.

Rise up brothers and sisters of the south, end hemispherism, and lets celebrate the day before the start of winter on the right day, namely April 30th.

Or do I just have to fall into line and think of plot twist for southern ghosts having a preference for spring over autumn.

You should celebrate Beltane then.. Another celtic festival on 30th April. There is a huge fire festival in Edinbhrgh every year with the Green Man.
