There's a definite line between curvy and obese. Marilyn Monroe was voluptuous; Marlene Dietrich was slim, but curvy; Audrey Hepburn was very slim indeed. But all three were sexy in their own way. Roseanne Barr, however, just looked gross. Massively large breasts are a health hazard and usually cause women incredible back pain. Very wide hips, although supposedly good for child-bearing, are a bit too "Wide Load Ahead" and rarely look good (esp when they try to fit them in tight pants or dresses).
A great deal has to do with how you present yourself. If you're overweight, you're always going to look better in more formal clothes. If you're fat and wearing skinny person clothes, you'll always look worse. Hanging "mid-drift" flab looks unsightly if you're trying to dress in the latest teen fashion just as if you're much older. Seeing sixty-year old out of shape women dressing like teen sluts is just sad as hell. Fat men in a t-shirt, shorts, and flip flops may be more comfortable, but they look like slobs where if they are in a suit, not so bad. Same for skinny. A skinny person in non-tailored clothes look like they're in a clown suit or were just released from a refugee camp. An overweight woman who uses makeup wisely and dresses well can look just as sexy as the mid-range woman, but if she uses too much makeup and dresses like she's trailer trash..well...
