I took it as a personal challenge, and I worked hard at that.I like listening to my friend talk, especially when he really gets going. I guess it's the same with me, I have a slight southern accent that gets stronger at certain times or if I'm talking to certain people.

I can only imagine she does at times. My husband is only from up north and I still get the, "What was that?"

The first recorded use of the word was in the 1780's. Twa Dogs by Robbie Burns, as a Scottish diminutive of George.
Sailors during the 19th century referred to boats and seamen from Newcastle as Geordies And those from Sunderland as Jammies. A pretty clear indication of the Jacobite explanation, imho.

Only from the war. It's a Geordie term and mainly used in football parlance.
Geordie is a term used by the whole of the UK. If you don't follow football or come from the Northeast you probably have never heard of the term.

I think it's so cool that guys from a certain city/area in the UK have a catchy name, like "Geordie Lad". So much better than "dude from Newcastle." We have names for people from certain places here in the US, but typically they aren't very nice.

So True! Here in NY, we call people from Massachusetts MassHoles! Geordie sounds so much nicer, LOL
