A mod just contacted me that one or more of my stories were stolen and posted on another site. Has this happened to you? I am of course angry but not sure how to approach it. I left a comment asking for them to remove it, but beyond that, any suggestions? It actually makes me feel violated. I mean you pour yourself into your story. I represents your your time and talent. It is like stealing a piece of your life.
As far as I can tell, just keep harassing them about it. They're the assholes who STOLE your work from you, and its important for us to hold them responsible, so as to help other authors avoid the same circumstance.
Really, everybody who sees anything of theirs over there, PLEASE do this! It's important that we show them they can't just take what isn't theirs and make ad revenue. Also, anybody who's just royally brassed off by this, fucking say so! Anywhere you feel like it. These guys are dickweasels of the highest order.
Like Mazza, I've had many stories AND audios stolen. It pisses me off, but there isn't a whole lot you can do. It's fucking creepy as shit knowing someone is stealing my voice more than my stories. I wish I knew what to do, but at the end of the day I don't, so I try not to let it eat away at me.
They've got at least nine of mine. Their server's in France, so I doubt they'll be bothered by DMCA notices. If anyone of the affected authors here is fluent in French and can write their hosting provider an official letter, that might be more efficient.
I can't seem to get this site to load. Every time I try to access the site it sends me somewhere else.
A question though: How is this site any different from the folks on Twitter who take our stories and use them in compilations? You can't stop them because anyone can copy and paste something.

You can get into a never ending battle of frustration when you start fighting these fly-by-night bulk copying operations. Most of the time the person running the site is unresponsive, because they know damn good and well they're stealing the content. The people hosting the place are typically unresponsive because they're usually in a country where nothing much can be done to them, and they're getting paid. The registrars don't care because they're only responsible for the domain name.
Even if you do get them taken down, they'll probably be back tomorrow at a different URL run by the same jackass.
You have to learn to accept that once you post something for free on the internet, you've more or less given away your right to control it. There's little to nothing you can do to stop people from copying it and putting it wherever they please.
I'm not saying you shouldn't be pissed off, or that the catharsis of trying to whack a mole or two and having some success isn't worth it, but keep the reality in the back of your mind so it doesn't become an obsession.
I checked, and bingo, found two of my stories straight away - both recommended reads as it happens. What can you do? Get them removed, and they will be back again - these people, whoever they are, are very sophisticated hackers. Don't know if Gav can do anything to stop it happening.
It wouldn't be so bad I suppose, if they acknowledged who the author was. In future I think I will put a signature and email address at the end of my stories, that will at least force them to do some work in stripping off the last line.
My sympathies to all my friends who have suffered in the same way, I know some of you are really upset, but at my age I have become resigned to the mendacity of people in a world with no standards.
