Issues with adultery stories.

I was hoping someone could shed some light for me. I've been writing for a whiled and have posted on various sites. A theme that I often write about is that of adultery/cheating wife. For some reason, there is a small number of readers who get so unbelievably hostile when they read these stories. I get threats, curses, people ranting about how the cheating wife will get aids and die or how the husband should chop of her head...etc. I have tried to respond to these people, but they generally don't like to discuss things at all. Have any other writers experienced this? What are these people's issues and why do they continue to read adultery stories if they upset them so?
I think it's mostly because the story turns them on and they want to punish the author for making them feel that way.
People have to bitch about something *sigh* i would just try to ignore what they say...
"Haters make me FAMOUS!!!"

I think Lisa's right. Maybe the better the story is written, the more angry a reader becomes because they see themselves in it.

Guilty conscience?

Ignore them or block them if you have to, because they are the wrong reader for your story.
How many times do you want to scream, "They're fiction! They don't exist so they really aren't cheating!"
DamonX, if it makes you feel any better, you're not the only one to suffer reader abuse in that category. Different categoreis seem to attract different reactions. Some readers of INTERRACIAL with a white female in the mix seem turned on by the idea of her getting pregnant. With , more often than not, the closer the characters are related the greater the response. With adulty stories, especially those with "cheating" wives, anger is very common.

One FWIW observation: unimpeded as I am by research or knowledge, it seems to me that stories written in first person tend to get more abuse than do those in third person. Still, the bottom line is, IMHO, if you want to continue posting stories that foucs on adulty, you'll just have to accept that sort of response comes with the territory.

I have to say that I have my stories posted on eleven sites, and yes, I have a couple cheating wife stories...and I have got a few negative messages and comments, but it always seems to be when the story first posts, and only on the "biggest" sites...the "hate mail" isn't always limited to that category and I tend to think there are people who go around leaving negative comments and sending hate mail when stories first get posted because they really have nothing else to do except read the latest story posts and leave negative comments...and somehow they get something out of it...
I also have to say that the "cheating wife/wife lovers" category gets a lot of views...I get more views, and positive feedback, in that category than any other...
So, I just take the good with the bad...or bad with the good...you know what I mean...

Just ignore those people. If they don't like what they read, don't read it!
Yeah, I've noticed that as well. Most of the negative feedback I've received comes from a well known site(that I will not mention here). And, you're right, most of the abusive comments occur early in after posting, which is a shame because those people rate the story very low which dissuades others from reading. I also agree that first person narrative stories get lower rankings, although only from other male readers. I've noticed that female readers actually rank the first person stories quite high.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one to experience these things. I was hoping to hear from the other side as well, but they seem to be absent from any logical, intelligent discussion. Personally, I don't understand it. I can't fathom searching out stories that I have no interest in just for the purpose of writing violent, angry responses. Oh well.

Cheers
I just read "Quikie", rated it and made a comment. It was a good story.

The notion of cheating/adultery is a topic our species has covered in great detail for thousands of years, covered in everything from fiction to religion to psychology to movies to mythology to law to popular music and ...

It is not the subject matter that some people object to it is how it is presented.

When you posted a topic asking people, "Does cheating turn you on? ", In the context of that question and since you asked, I told you what I thought about the subject. You could say I was hostile towards the notion of sexual gratification coming at the expense of fucking someone over. Maybe you didn't mean it that way, but that is how I and a number of people who read your question took it.

Would you clarify what you mean by "getting off" on cheating?

It is always easy to tell someone to kiss your ass when the alternative is to actually deal with an issue. DamonX brought up the topic in a different way elsewhere, didn't seem to get the answer he was looking for, came to "ask the author" it seems to me looking for allies and validation. He got the topic going so I think he should defend it or let it go.

The reality is that not everyone will like what you do, if all author gets is a few people that disrespects them, its not the end of the world. In this case I don't think he is clear about what he is talking about other than whining. He indicates that a lot of the comments did not happen on Lush, that has a bearing on this topic. If people send you emails you can't handle they can be reported as well as comments on your story. I reported a comment on one of my stories and it was removed.
Of course I can always ignore negative comments. In bringing up this topic I was hoping to understand the point of view of these people. Please don't mistake this for complaining either. 99.9% of the feedback I receive is very positive. And no, Kyle, I am not looking for allies or validation. The other topic I posted concerning cheating has no relation to this one.

Adultery is a common theme in erotic stories. I can understand that some people are not interested in the subject. What I have a hard time understanding is the level of hostility that they evoke. I, for one, am turned off by the subject of . It's not like I seek out stories to write angry comments about them.

The same people seem to have problems with swinger or wife sharing stories. Ranting and calling me a wimp/cuckold. I'm beginning to think that these people have some problem with any story in which a female character exerts her sexuality. Stories with cheating husbands seldom evoke such strong reactions.
DamonX, thanks for clarifying things. It changes how I think about your topic.

You touch on two themes that I find significant in both life and fiction, one is the double standard between the sexes and the other women exerting their sexuality, both are pretty deep subjects. I think working them into an erotic story would be interesting to do. Personally, I think the sexual liberation movement was very significant for both men and women. Women expressing their sexuality in individual ways not restricted by false morals or the whims and ways of men makes some people very uncomfortable. My message to them is mind your own business. Personally, I like strong women, I don't care for Barbie. (No offense to that wonderful toy that girls find endless pleasure with.)

Thanks for clarifying things. I appreciate it.
I just got some new feedback this morning, so I thought I'd share.

This wasn't quite as angry as some of the messages I've received, but it demonstrates the view of some people. Kind of funny actually.
DamonX: "Most of the negative feedback I've received comes from a well known site(that I will not mention here)."

I bet I know which one you mean. I posted a story in letter form about a wife explaining to her husband why she cheated and I got a lot of angry comments and emails. Many of the people writing the worst things assumed that the character narrating the letter was me. The first ones I wrote back and told them that it was a work of fiction, and explained what fiction was, but then I decided just to ignore them. I don't mind negative comments on my writing style, but people reading a site devoted to sex stories shouldn't be so upset over sexual content. What are they expecting?

I find it bizarre that people who have such strong feelings about works of fiction, even come to a site like this. What do they seriously expect?

I have experienced this as well. What is weird to me in I can write an story and it will be read by alot more people. A wife cheating or cuckhold husband one gets less interest. I really haven't had much in the way of hostile comments but I can see how that might happen.
I really enjoy the give and take when a good topic gets everyone involved and interested.. so often the dialogue ends abruptly without consideration.. as for me.. my stuff isn't highly read and gets little comment.. but even if it were I would never feel the need to respond to anyone in the form of justifying my story.. I allow that everyone is entitled to an opinion and that not everyone is capable of expressing that opinion courteously.. some topics such as are magnets for readers and it doesn't matter if there is any great thought or notion behind them just as long as someone is fucking someone.. in the end all that matters is that you took the time to share your thoughts with others.. that's why we are all here...

You know Damon...I think we are referring to the same large site where you are experiencing most of this negative feedback. The site allows you to delete public comments...however, I find most of the negative public comments to be from anonymous readers, and often are full of so many spelling and grammatical errors that I sometimes leave them up just because I find them humorous...to me, the poster of the negative comment just makes him or herself look stupid...
Here is a comment left on my story "Dance Class", a cheating wife story that was chosen as an Editor pick here at Lush Stories...a site with great taste, btw...

So just a chance for cheaters to cheat.

There have beem two women in my life whom I have actually dancing with trying with. One is my wife of fifteen years some twenty years my junior. The other a married lady who danced with me at night clubs when our two couples went out or to swingers clubs. I havent seen her in some twenty years and dont even know if she is still alive by Paula and I danced as a dream without trying.

OK...that made a lot of sense, didn't it???

Here is another public comment left on my story "Olivia's Ordeal", a reluctance story about a young woman who goes to prison...I just think this is classic...

Minus Male Guards

This story is fucked. In California, where I was once a Guard in CIW, State Women's Prison, we men fucked the new ones and kept fucking them until they got knocked up. I didn't knock any up as I have a low sperm count, but the inmates did not know that and several of my Guard buddies made up for my lack of sperm and became Daddys.

Delete the above comment.

So...I just consider the source of the comments, and in most cases they are from people are who definitely a few fries short of a Happy Meal...

Yeah, I don't know what it is about "that site". I post on a number of sites but it seems the only negative feedback comes form that one. There was actually a guy on there that caled himself "The Erotic Avenger" who would take other people's adultery stories and resubmit them as his own after changing the story to have the female character ending up being harmed in some way.

Normally I wouldn't even care about negative feedback, but the fact that they always are "anonymous" is irritating. I also have attracted my own anit-fanclub on there. Apparently, they wait until I post a new story and then rate it as a "0" over and over to make the score so low to dissuade others from reading.
