Am curious to see what everyone would list as their top 5 current favourite TV programmes! I am interested to know how different tastes are in the different countries, between men and women, younger and older.
Going first, as a 24 year old Scottish man, my 5 are:
The Big Bang Theory
Doctor Who
Family Guy
Sherlock
Have I Got News For You
I don't watch all that much TV, but I discovered by accident a show called 'The Middle'. I'm really enjoying it, it's well scripted, funny and the characters are excellent - I'm liking the fact that I can watch it with the kids and there's something for everyone...
As a general rule TV bores the shit out of me. I can't stand the plethora of reality shows and singing competitions. The few that I do watch without fail are Doctor Who, Game Of Thrones and until recently, Dexter.
What's really interesting with TV these days - at least in the US - is the real "feast or famine" nature of it all in terms of quality. The "networks" here in the US have finally convinced our FCC (Federal Communications Commission for those of you from outside of the US who may not know what the FCC is) that they need to have more latitude on content in order to compete with premium channel cable TV (which, because they are purely funded by private subscriptions - and not by advertising - have had far more latitude in what content they could cover and show). What blows my mind is that, characteristically in the US, even the "networks" can - and do - get quite graphic in their depictions of violence, but God help us if Janet Jackson flashes her tit with a pastie at half time of the Super Bowl! Strange fucking country sometimes.
Anyway, at long overdue, my favorites:
Sherlock
Ripper Street
Big Bang Theory
Modern Family
Dracula
Grimm
Real Time With Bill Maher
Penn & Teller's Bullshit
Rick Steves' Europe
Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations
Downton Abbey
Sherlock
Mad Men
George Gently or whatever it's called (Inspector Gently? something like that)
Breaking Bad (currently still my favorite even though it ended a few weeks ago)
Supernatural
South Park
Game of Thrones
True Blood
Doctor Who
WWE Monday Night Raw
Family Guy
American Dad
Suits
Scandal
Love & Hip-Hop
The Walking Dead
Archer
Bob's Burgers
NCIS. though I'm loosing interest due to the lack of the loss of Ziva, her replacement has lacked
the type of interaction Ziva brought. I'll give it a few more weeks. Hope it improves.
Boardwalk Empire
Prime Suspect(not a series but discovered it recently. Helen Mirren is an acting goddess)
Weeds(I miss it)
British/UK crime shows suck me in every time. Like that show The Accused. WOW.
The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, NCIS, Almost Human, Marvels agents of S.H.I.E.L.D,
Person of Interest and a few others yeah Im a bit of a TV buff lol
