Your name is on my lips in the reaches of the night
Where the stars anchor my fluttering soul
In myriad dreams,
Dancing on a tether in galaxies where once you trod
Through my darkening heart,
A singing zephyr of haunting joy
That whispers across my skin
And winds ribbons of fading memories through my hair,
Crawling in auburn sunset
And mellowing beneath the layers
That I have built to find some solace
From the emptiness you left in me.
These nights, these glowering days,
Your fading face that skitters away
On breeze-blown newspaper
With the sound of your crumbling velvet voice,
They seem to mock where once
You claimed to love
Me.
Hand on heart and squeeze
The love into the gushing gutter
In rivulets of bitter, bloody tears
That trickle their way in tickling torment
To flow into a sea of crashing
Me,
The shape of old forgotten
And self-despising longing now
Hammered into the wall
That bears your blurring portrait
And your name is ever on my lips...
