I used to be rich once,
Until I fell in love,
It hit me like a bowling ball,
Falling from above.
She was spending lots of money,
But I was too blind to see
Until before I knew it,
It was rags that clothed me.
But still by love I was blinded,
And yearn for her did I,
She kept my heart locked tight,
Boy was she ever sly.
Though I was broke and bankrupt,
Matter did it not,
Because all that I could see,
Were the riches that I’ve got.
All I saw were emerald eyes,
And long locks of golden hair,
The ruby red of her lips,
And priceless beauty everywhere.
I was the richest man alive,
And thought it would last forever,
Until the spell was broken,
And our love she decided to sever.
And since that day,
When she showed she didn’t love me,
I myself have been,
On the road to recovery.
