I've never been much good with words, 
My memory's like a sieve. 
But someone told me that a poem
Is a real nice gift to give.

This Valentine's, I want to say 
What I feel about you. 
Sadly, I don't have the words, 
So these will have to do.

I like you lots and lots and lots,
So much it makes my head reel.
There surely is a stronger word, 
To let you know how I feel.

But though I think, and strain my mind
To find the right expression,
My mind's gone blank; I just can't find
The words of my confession.

I think of you and think of flowers—
The red ones, not the blue. 
The ones with thorns, but that's not why
They remind me of you.

Why can't I think of what they're called?
It's really quite frustrating. 
I bought you twelve last Valentine's,
When we'd just started dating.

Your eyes, they twinkle, bright and clear,
Just like diamond rings,
Or the lights in the clear night sky. 
What do you call those things?

We laid out once, one Summer's night,
And gazed at them for hours. 
But still I can't recall their name,
Just like the blasted flowers.

I'll care for you forever, dear,
No matter what may be. 
The depth of my emotion
Is deeper than the sea.

"What's deeper than the sea?" I ask. 
"What's bluer and much greater?"
I'm stuck again, the words won't come,
It'll have to wait 'til later.

The organ in my chest, it thuds
Whenever you are near. 
For when I see your lovely face,
I want to shout and cheer.

I don't know what that organ is;
I think I need a rest. 
If I stress over words much longer,
It will beat out of my chest.

Vocabulary has failed me,
I'll never be a poet. 
And so I'll stop in one more verse,
Before I really blow it.

You make me feel all warm and good,
You make me want to dance. 
I'm so glad, sweet Valentine,
That you gave me a chance.
