Henry Armstrong. Held three world titles in different weight classes at same time and this when only one champion of the world for each classification.
I read parts of the presentation on dialogue and narrative and found it somewhat useful although it should be looked at as just one person's opinion. A serious writer should look at more than just one. I have had a little success as a writer of mainstream novels and will tell you what I learned when a very accomplished editor ripped my first novel apart...removing whole chapters as useless filler. He told me something that has stuck with me. He said, realistic dialogue can put your reader into your story and if well done can make them feel as an eavesdropper, or even a voyeur, to what is happening. Too much narrative can put your reader to sleep.
One other thing...thoughts are not put in quotes. They are written in italics. One doesn't want them confused with dialogue.
Just my thoughts on the subject.
I have done that... no response. no boxing opportunity. I can receive boxes from people and answer those by using the reply but not able to generate any from friend list or profile pages.
Sorry Nicola I didn't answer all of your response. I have tried to message from profiles and from friend's list. Same result. I have used Microsoft, Google Chrome and Firefox all with same result.
When I mouse over a friend a line appears below their handle but nothing else. This has been a problem since Monday. I have tried three different browsers and same results on all three,
I am using a desktop PC. I mouse over the friends and on your profile and do not get any response. Just shows nothing. Sorry for all the issues.
My inability to black box my friends continues this morning. I only attempt to box those on my friends list. I have never encountered this problem before in my 9 years on lush.
I am unable to black box anyone. Even those on my friend's list. I can respond to ones I get but cant create any. How do I correct that or?
I've been unable to black box any of my friends for the past few days. How can I get this corrected? Thank you.
I rarely contribute in the forums but thought I might add my 2cts to this. I have never had a single formal writing class yet I have written three main stream novels. It has been my experience that is it far more important to be conceptually talented than technically so. All publishers have editors that provide assistance and direction. I've learned much from them. A good editor can help one overcome many writing issues but they can't help you conceive a good story. Over the years I have been involved in writing conferences and observed many technically sound educated writers who couldn't conceive a sound story. The ability to create a good marketable story is far more important than being able to write technically correct.
There is an outstanding and very talented writer here... Burquette. There are some others that are good but will go unnamed as don't wish to overlook anyone. No longer publishing here, to my knowledge, but also outstanding, would be Lisa and Jaymal.
Congratulations Mags. That is a wonderful accomplishment. Sell a million and write many more.
Burquette is an amazing talent who deserves the praise and endorsements her writing has received.
I would agree she writes good but actually good is not good enough to describe her writing talent... she writes very good... actually better than very good.
And no it is not too early to be drinking... sometimes it is good to get a good early start.
Burquette doesn't need my endorsement or praise for her very obvious writing talent as she has in a very short time been recognized as one of the top writers here, however her talent so amazes me that I feel obligated to do so. In my opinion she possess a talent that can't be learned no matter how many creative writing classes one might take. Her words leap from the page into ones mind... capturing ones attention. There is not a question in my mind that Burquette possess mainstream, top selling talent.
Reggie is deserving of the credit and praise she receives here and elsewhere. She is a rare talent. A very skilled writer that is exceptionally conceptual. As I have told her... she needs to be writing novels. She likely has a best seller in that mind of hers.
I look at the overall content of the profile. The most important quality is intelligence... if it doesn't jump out at me I pass it by. Boring is a waste of time. The important thing to remember when posting a profile is that what is placed here could be in cyber space for all of time for anyone to view. Be cautious and smart.
