Ruthie is full of humour and intellgence. It is no wonder that we all adore her. Well done, Ruthie.
There are some, especially in the threads oriented toward politics. Some people can argue their points reasonably and without insult, but others thrive on invective. The latter write to provoke. I try to ignore them and not give them any attention.
Given that I do a lot of reading and writing in my work, it is still a pleasure to read books that have no work application. I read more fiction than non-fiction and have stacks of books throughout the house. I usually have more than one book going at a time, and read at least one each week. I have been trying to cull books and give them away, but many are hard to part with. I have an ereader, but still prefer the old fashioined book in my hands.
I have to learn not to engage when no good will come of it. I have nothing to prove.

Damn, there's one I haven't heard in a while. A 7 and 7 over here, too.

My late uncle worked for Seagram's (the original distillery in Waterloo, which is now housing a Google data centre, IIRC, having been shut down as a distillery years ago) so their product figured heavily in his drinking habits (I was too young to imbibe at that time, he died around the time I finished high school). I used to use Crown Royal bags to carry dice and figures for my D&D playing.

In our family the soft purple Crown Royal bags were used for scrabble tiles and other game pieces. You brought back a fond memory.

I guess I'll have some coffee. I am still at work so it is too early to drink. Thankfully I am having a much better day than yesterday. Hope you are all doing well.
I too have this experience. The role reversal is very difficult for both parent and child. You have to have a lot of patience and remember that your parents have given you love and care all of their lives.

I think I know why so many Canadians have moved to Atlanta. The sun and it's warm most of the year, actually dripping humid hot all summer to early fall. But lots of Canadians here, and I tend to meet them through business, business organizations, and civic clubs. I like Canadians but don't tell LYFBUZ. I ain't fooled by all that pacificity... just a smokescreen until Canadian world domination and Maple Leafs on everything. smile

Give me something Canadian to drink. Uh, Canadian Mist on ice.

We should have 7 and 7 and toast to world domination, Buz. That's Seagrams Seven Crown and 7-Up, an old fashioned drink.

My son goes through hell every winter. SAD, we suspect, though he's never been formally diagnosed. Gives us an excuse to spend part of the holiday (usually New Year's) someplace sunny and warm. This year it's Cancun.

Vitamin D is supposed to help and I take it every day. I agree with your son's strategy and try to get away to an island each winter. Canadians are a hardy lot but by February we really have had enough of winter's cold and short days. The only remedy is some warmth and sunshine. I think that most of us suffer to some extent from SAD.
agita (because of how my day went)

nouninformal
noun: agita
indigestion.
"I ain't a healthy guy! My stomach can't take this agita"
anxiety, stress, or aggravation.
"there will be times when he causes the Democratic leadership some agita"
Origin
1980s: from Italian agitare ‘agitate, shake.’
It has been a gloomy here and work has provided some difficult problems. Not a great day. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who copes better on a bright, sunny day. Oh well, best get used to it. Autumn and winter in Canada.

I think I am ready for a drink. Maybe vodka and tonic with liime. Hello all. How have your days gone?

What about mind control? I love stories of hypnosis and other mind control

I think that might run into problems regarding consent.

Evening, Hannah. Your want 'real' tea or one of those decaf, not really tea, like that 'cameltoe' stuff? ;)

Sara, did you get your Crown and Coke? In case you can't remember, here's another one, just to be on the safe side.

Don't recall if Ms P placed an order or, if she did, just exactly what it might have been. So here's ya a mug of tea so Hannah won't be sipping alone.

Dang interesting weekend, imo.

Anybody else need a drink?

Thank you. It's evening here now. I think I'll have a glass of red wine please.

This is beautiful. Thank you for posting it here

I wondered if this poem was known in the US. I think it is in the UK. It is iconic in Canada and taught in grade school as part of Remembrance Day. Canadians patriotism is expressed differently than in the US but this day is marked with respect by all. The blanket of poppies on the war memorials is a moving reminder of all who were lost in all the wars from WW I through to the present.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Written by John McCrae, a Canadian soldier and doctor in the wake of WW I. I believe that this is the origin of the poppy we wear in the weeks preceding November 11. The poppies are then placed on local war memorials, blanketing them in red.

Welcome, Ms. P. May I buy you another?

I realize the hubbub is slowly passing, but l liked both Mike and VG, so I will raise a glass (of coffee) to their leaving. Actually, my first reaction was that we lost the best piece of flash on Lush - VG's The Plumber. Is is cold of me to think of the story before the person?

Anyway, I think the extended debate about categories, both the I-word and others, is a sign of a healthy engaged community here at Lush. People care passionately, about the site and the writing here. That's why good thing, right?

Yes, thank you.

It is understandable that there are strong feelings on that subject and its return. I am certain that the decision was not taken lightly, but was a necessary business one. In the end people do what is comfortable for them including blocking that category. Lush does tend to have a hold on people and I would not be shocked if Mike and VG return at some point. If they continue to write they will find no other place like this one to publish their stories.
I voted for Rock and Rollers. Think about all of the groupies.

As part of Canadians taking over the world (one of Buz's theories) I think our votes should be proportional to the Yanks, so multiply by ten for me, seeker and LYFBUZ.

THE Principessa' is among us! Welcome to Rumplations. Make yourself to home. Most of this crowd have had their shots and claim to be housebroken. Just one warning, if ya don't come across with a shorthand handle, you're gonna get stuck with something like either PP or Ms Pessa.

Lyf, Big Bertha is eager to accept any injections...of coffee, that is.

My New Orleans Saints are ahead of the almost-in-Canada Buffalo Bills, 7-3 after the first quarter. So there. ;)

Anybody want anything to drink?

I guess it will have to be Ms P. Thanks for the warm welcome.

Hmmm. Wonder if loading Bertha up with Timmie's Dark Roast would improve the quality of the coffee around here?

* Cracks open a stubby and takes a swig *

Yes on the coffee and Canadian beer. Next it will be poutine, peameal bacon sandwiches, and, from Montreal, bagels and smoked meat (not together).
Amazingly, although I have been a member for several years, I think this is the first time I have been here.

I would like a bloody Mary, please. It is brunch time here.
#MeToo

I can't share details but can join the list.

I found out something quite distressing when I discussed it with my GP. He told me that he was shocked and heartbroken by the number of his patients who have told him that they had been abused. We have been living in a world where this has been and is going on all the time. It takes a lot of courage to share this with anyone else. It leaves scars that last a lifetime.
I know how to quote someone's post and respond to it. Could someone please explain to me how to quote two different posts in that one response. Thanks in advance.
What a shame. I loved the Traveling Wilburys and also remember a great documentary which included him and Springsteen, Elvis Costello and many others honouring Roy Orbison, "Roy Orbison: A Black and White Night".
