Meh, a nip slip. I'm sure she'll check her costume thoroughly tonight. They had a great skate and are close enough to make Scott & Tessa work for it so I'm expecting a spectacular end to the free dance tonight. And our other Canadian duos sit at 8 and 9 so probably out of the medals, but we seem to have some potential even after Virtue and Moir retire.

BTW, not sure how well know this is outside Canada, but tonight's free dance marks Virtue and Moir's final performance in competition. After 20 years and a raft of awards, they are calling it a day after Pyeongchang.

The costume issue did affect their skate. Gabby was visibly anxious and trying to readjust the top a few times during the skate, since the halter broke quite early on. They had a mistake on their twizzles and were noticeably off from the way I've seen them skate that program before. Can't blame her - it's a major distraction. Regardless, the judges gave them the best performance marks of the night, and 2 judges had them in first. After their freedance tonight (which is very strong) and knowing ice dance judging as I do, I will be absolutely shocked if Papadakis and Cizeron don't win the gold (and likely a new WR). They would have to have some super visible error, and even then, not sure.

Tessa and Scott will have the coveted last skate of the night, and their Moulin Rouge program is a huge crowd pleaser, especially among Korean fans. If they skate perfect, it will be close, but I would bet on the French. I just want Virtue/Moir to have a fantastic skate and close out a spectacular career on a high note, 'come what may'. I've been a fan of theirs since 2007. Regardless of the medal colour, after tonight they will actually retire as the most decorated figure skaters of all time.
Virtue and Moir were lights out perfection last night. I was really thrilled to see them skate that program so well!

But there was a serious wardrobe malfunction in the short dance for the French team, (currently in second, heading into the freedance). The back of her top snapped early on, and provided much distraction.

Yes, ice dance is definitely the sexiest sport in the Olympics.

Congrats to the talented winners and top 10, and really everyone that entered and contributed to the new categories!
Hockey last night was awesome! The American girls are tough, but Canadians will find a way to edge them every time. *winks @ Sprite*

I was so happy to see Duhamel and Radford get their bronze medal in pairs skating last night. The Germans were easily the best in class - I think the quality of their skating is untouchable in this Olympic group.

Also - congrats to Canada's Ted-Jan Bloemen for winning GOLD and setting a world record in the 10,000m speed skating!
And that's after his silver in the 5,000m a few days ago!

And yeah, ok, fine, he was born in the Netherlands (of course!), but moved to Canada 4 years ago to skate for Canada because he was frustrated by the lack of support from the Dutch program and received Canadian citizenship through his father, who was born in New Brunswick. He's all about the red and white now! smile

Also, WTF with the women's slopestyle comp last night. The wind was nuts. There's no way they should have been on that course. In most pro comps, the competitors are consulted beforehand, but officials didn't bother here. Given that the course is only in use for two days of the entire Olympics, and we're still in the early days, it's awful that they didn't postpone this. Those women were getting thrown around out there and it made the course super dangerous and inconsistent for all.

Still - congrats to Jamie Anderson (USA), Laurie Blouin (Canada), and Enni Rukajaarvi (Finland) for surviving the day to get the medals. Laurie Blouin suffered a horrible fall in training last week where she had to be stretchered off to the hospital and still had a black eye - getting silver is awesome.

But yeah - they should have postponed the event for sure, so everyone had a decent shot at giving it their best.
The King of the Moguls is Gold! So happy for Mikael Kingsbury!

Saw this on twitter: When he was 9 years old, he stuck this on the ceiling over his bed, so he'd see it every time he went to sleep, and every time he woke up. Now it's reality.

I'm not a super big fan of figure skating. that said, i wanted to watch Adam Ripon, cause i like him, so i did, in the team event. the music was beautiful, his entire program was beautiful, and it was just so graceful and filled with love - actually teared up - i'm officially an Adam Ripon fan. and then, the fucking Canadian guy comes out and skates to Hallilujah? No like, i'm like, You fucker, i hope you fall! and then, he did, and i felt awful about it - then, when the judges scored him higher than Adam, i stopped feeling sorry. fucking Canadian prick.

PChiddy had two clean quad combos. Rippon was a lovely skater (and has a kickass back story so he'll be a fan fave for years), but he didn't attempt any quads. It comes down to technical difficulty of the overall program (and how you rack up points), not just having a clean (but easier program). Artistry does count, but Chan's skating skills are as smooth as chiffon and spandex as well. If it makes you feel any better, even if Adam came first, Canada still would have won the Gold, based on overall points.

But yeah, all the top guys are doing tons of quads. If you want to compete for top spot these days in mens singles, you need the quad.

In the meantime, Canada's first gold medal of the Games! Sweet!

And most especially, Virtue and Moir's gorgeous Moulin Rouge freeskate was perfection.
*interesting note - They actually modified one of their signature lifts (the one where Tessa flips up to straddle Scott's face) because it was deemed as 'too sexy' for the Olympics. I am a huge fan of that original lift, but the modified version does look great too.

Love the aesthetics of this lift too.

I'm ENFP-T as well.

Weakness:

- overthink things

Careers:

While Thinking types may be better at applying logic to systems and machines, people with the Campaigner personality type are able to apply that same logic to human interactions and networks, using their exceptional social perception to find out what makes people tick. This lends Campaigners a solid foothold in any human science or service, from psychology, counseling and teaching to politics, diplomacy and detective work. All of these fields have another important similarity: they are in constant development, shifting, presenting new angles and new approaches. It’s simply not possible to be good in these fields and content with the way things are, and this is where Campaigners truly shine.

Where Campaigners do not shine is in systems of strict regimentation and hierarchy, such as military service. Campaigners thrive on the ability to question the status quo and explore the alternatives, and if this is a quality that is not just unappreciated but actually frowned upon, this will not only make them unhappy, but it may even threaten their emotional stability. Repetition, predictability, boredom… while some Sentinel types may appreciate predictability and clear hierarchies, these are not selling points for Campaigners. People with the Campaigner personality type need to feel like they’re pushing boundaries and exploring ideas, and should focus on interests and careers that encourage that.

Many more career options satisfy these needs, and not just the scientific ones – writing, journalism, acting and TV reporting all give Campaigners a chance to explore something new every day and stir the pot a little while they’re at it. It may come to pass though, that the best way forward for Campaigner personalities is to establish themselves as entrepreneurs and consultants, blazing their own trails and taking on whatever project is most fascinating. So long as they get to use their people skills, identify and achieve their own goals and inspire their colleagues and followers, Campaigners will be happy.
Oh, the agony that Ski Ballet never made it into the Olympics after coming so close! I love those pouffy gold sleeves.

it's called slopestyle for a reason. that said, Mark had a couple of amazing runs, and yeah, i hope he take gold in Big Air. one of my favorite things to see, btw, is how much love the snowboarders give each other. watching Carlos from NZ, who got knocked out of medals on the last run talking about Gerard - the little guy's my best friend. while they're compitive, they're just as supportive of each other. true olympic spirit.

missed the moguls - need to catch up on those! P.Chiddy, btw, sounds like a rap name. lol

Yeah, the bromance level is high in snowboarding, and I love it. They all support each other and push each other on. Apparently the judging panels can differ in their criteria to a certain degree (taking this from commentaries on it). All of those guys are super talented though. Not to mention, nobody would have thought the Viking (Marcus Kleveland) would have been left on the podium before that event started.

And, P.Chiddy is the gangsta of men's figure skating. And no, it doesn't matter that he got kicked out of Liquor Barn for not having his ID. He just makes his own wine, like a Boss! smile
I sooo wanted McMorris to nail that last run. He had the most technically difficult run of the day (in the second) but not 100% smooth (though still basically clean). These judges were looking for form vs technical. Bronze (or 'Rose Gold' as they call it) is still excellent, considering what he's overcome, and Parrot and Gerard slipped in with great final clean runs. On to Big Air, where there's still hope for a golden prize for MM.

The Canadian women's hockey team looked strong this morning against the Russians, with a 5-0 shutout.

And women's moguls were emotional! Great heart shown by Justine to grab a silver.

I have to catch up on long-track speed skating later.

And tonight... here's hoping Patrick Chan can stay on his feet enough to secure a Team gold in figure skating. Women's and Dance free should be solid enough, but P.Chiddy is a bit of a wild card.
Admittedly, I am a Winter Olympics junkie. I am interested in all of it.

My favourite events are:

Figure skating - most excited to see Virtue and Moir in their third Olympics, even though the French team will get gold, but also excited to see what the girls can do (Daleman, and I love Osmond's Black Swan free). Canada is in good shape to (possibly) win the team event as well, after the overall disastrous men's short program last night.

Also - snowboarding! Slopestyle and Big Air for the thrill of seeing Mark McMorris - back and competing, against all odds, after a near death disaster during some backcountry snowboarding last year. Here's an excellent documentary about his accident and road to recovery.

I'm looking forward to moguls as well. Kingsbury will be King, and hoping the girls continue to push for medals - there are several right in the mix.

And, of course, Hockey... because... Canada.

As for the Russians. They didn't go nearly far enough in the 'ban' - which can barely even qualify as a ban (in name only). So many athletes were robbed in Sochi, the system defrauded. This still feels like a slap on the wrist. I feel for the truly clean athletes that want to compete, but I hope the criteria is stringent and the checks are triple the norm for other athletes - but I hate that they aren't being transparent about it.

Articles like this continue to cast doubt on the Russian sports system in general.

speaking of porn, little known fact. Dancing Doll and i hooked up a while back and did a few soft porn films together, just for fun. my fav was the girl on girl MMA style wrestling one. they're posted on the interwebs, tho ridiculously hard to find unless you know where, in case anyone is interested.

And it takes even greater web sleuthing to find our hard porn films! They are pretty life-changing though. ;)
Tequila - During my University years, I had a long summer of partying very hard on Tequila and doing crazy things, culminating in an arrogant 'I can handle my Tequila' night of seven shots on an empty stomach and two days of being sick. I don't drink it straight anymore, but 5 years later I can handle it in a very occasional 'light' margarita. I've overdone it on pretty much every kind of alcohol at some point, but nothing set up the gag reflex like Tequila did.

For non-Alcoholic drinks - Kombucha. I think it tastes absolutely vile.

I think Lennie James might have gone over to FTWD just in the nick of time.

Sadly, there is no escaping The Gimple. sad

I sincerely hope he doesn't mess up the show. The series got off to a slow start, but I thought FTWD's third season was arguably better than the last two seasons of TWD. There was some really cool character development and writing on that show, especially toward the end of last season. I'm excited to see what they do with Morgan and where he fits in.

I read that Chandler Rigg's father is steaming mad because he thinks they fired him. What doesn't make sense, is that Gimple said while on The Talking Dead, that Chandler and his parents were brought in before filming to let them know, and explained why. (maybe they are purposely misleading us?)
It has nothing to do with college.

Gimple absolutely fired him. Chandler Rigg's said in an interview that he thought Gimple was joking when he first told him, and it shocked him and the rest of the cast when they learned the news. Chandler had recently bought a house in Georgia to be close to filming. They really did him dirty with this decision. He only found out while they were in rehearsals for episode 6.

Here's what his Dad said:

Of course, obviously shows can kill off main characters, but I think they've really fucked up with this decision. Gimple's reasoning is that Carl had to die to legitimize a way for Rick to spare Negan's life after the war is over. There are many other ways they could have achieved this goal (eg. maybe Negan saves Carl's life at some point, so Rick could consider sparing him etc.).

I like JDM, but the Negan character doesn't translate well to TV (way too cartoony and douchey), and I think a large portion of the audience wants Negan dead. Killing Carl off for this character is such a bad move. Plus Negan now has even more plot armour than Rick.

I wish they would find a new showrunner and better writers. I hate watching characters make nonsensical decisions just to move already silly plot lines, like Rick hitting up the garbage people for a second time, or Ezekiel stopping to give a rallying speech in an open field in the shadow of a huge uncleared building. Up until now, this season has had lots of ups and downs but it's far from the magic of earlier seasons (mainly pre-Alexandria). They need to get back to basics and give more screen time to the core cast.

It's really hard to imagine the show without Carl. It was fun to watch him grow up on the show. The mid season premiere is going to be harsh. Major tears, for sure.

EDIT: Despite everything, the kid still has a sense of humour.

I thought last night's season opener was reasonably strong, especially for being the 100th episode. It was nice to see the group set up a real strategy to attack Negan's compound. Finally being on the offensive was a nice change from last season's ongoing beat down.

Luckily Negan was wearing plot armour because he could have (should have) been shot about a dozen times when he was in plain view during Rick's 'surrender now' speech.

I'm interested to see how Eugene's character navigates his own personal quest for survival. Does he swap sides again when the Saviours start going down? Does the group let him back in or bother trying to trust him again? I don't think I could.
Gord was such a talented, courageous and inspiring Canadian icon. He will be greatly missed.

A great theme and a very worthy cause. I'm already looking forward to reading some of these entries!
Congrats to Burquette, Lupus, Oceanrunner, the runners up and everyone who entered!

Gutenberg was special piece that really spoke to the theme of the comp. It was also damn sexy.
Personally I don't wear them, though I do have thermal tights and base wear for skiing, snowboarding and sometimes just walking the dog during hardcore winter. They're not attached though.

I did take a second glance the other day at the Roots' Cabin Collection waffle onesie, but that's got buttons down the front and no flap, so I guess they're not technically Long Johns.

there's a fucking flap? thinking i need to investigate!

Long Johns must have a 'fetish wear' fandom somewhere, right?

I've never been drawn to Fantasy and Sci Fi, but Butterfly Beach is probably the most unique story/series on this site.

You get adventures of raw creativity, lyrical language, creatures birthed from a truly trippy imagination, and... tentacle sex! And not the sketchy kind of tentacle sex - the really erotic kind. Just when you think you're burnt out on reading all the standard dirty story fare, you fall into this world and it's all fresh and new again.

This is one of my favourite series on Lush. Highly, highly recommended!

Happy Birthday to the one-and-only badass, kick-ass, take-no-prisoners, Talented AF Blondie!

Wishing you a special day (and year) of unparalleled good times that celebrate your beautiful and playful spirit!

Love you, girl. xx

You seem outdoorsy, so maybe look into getting involved with a local nature/camping/portaging or hiking group. Something that will give you some sustained quality time with a group of people. Try a paddle-boarding or kayaking club in your area.

If that's not your thing, consider volunteering or getting involved with a charity of your choice. Do fundraisers, work a booth at a local event or festival, help out at a local shelter (animal or human). Volunteer to go abroad with a charity group (eg. clean water projects) or get involved with something like Habitat for Humanity. You will always meet people that way.

I don't know if you're religious (or care to be), but church-based activities/groups are probably a slam-dunk if you're looking to ease into growing a group of friends or finding a relationship, but that involves a personal commitment that's not for everyone.

Lastly, maybe save up some $ or dip into the vacation funds and go on a Contiki tour. You'll meet lots of solo travellers (they claim up to 55% go solo) and have some fun. I have two friends that have actually found relationships out of this.
