About

civil engineer, professional theater and big band musician, and totally new to fiction writing. While an undergrad student, had several articles published in international scholarly journals in geology and in history, but have never published any fictional material. Well - except on here, obviously. Not looking to "hookup" or for relationships. Just looking to interact with other aspiring writers. Oh, and gratuituous online sex - did I mention that? (grin....no, make that .... leer)

Interests
hydraulics and hydrology (particularly the characteristics and forces involved in movement of surface water); clocks and clock repair; collectible (mostly British) automobiles; 17th and 18th century New England artifacts and history; and - this last probably goes without saying - sex in all its manifestations :-)

Favorite Books
USA, by John Dos Passos; Superstoe, byWilliam Borden; Trout Fishing In America, by Richard Brautigan; Ulysses, by James Joyce; The Clock Winder, by Anne Tyler; Republic, by Plato; My Life on the Mississippi, by Mark Twain; Beyond The 100th Meridian, by Wallace Stenger; Time Enough For Love, by Robert A Heinlein; MY Secret Garden, by Nancy Friday; and tons of others

Favorite Authors
It is easier to name least favorite authors than it is to name my favorites. I hated Fenimore Cooper - I found him bombastic and overly detailed. I disliked Theodore Dreiser because he was too impersonal. While I hated Moby Dick, I enjoyed Billy Budd, Foretopman; so the desision is open on Herman Melville. I like James Faulkner, but a little of his work goes a long way; most of it is so depressing. I like James Hawthorne, but suspect that can be ascribed to my interest in New England history, as much as to his writing style. I found Alfred North Whitehead interesting, but not easy reading - especially his treateses on mathematics. I have never read anything by Studs Terkel that I didn't like, but, let's face it: most of his material was "written" by the subjects of his interviews.

Favorite Movies
The Mighty Quinn; Run, Lola, Run; North Country; The Quiet Man; Rear Window; Matador; The Piano; Schindler's List; Drumline; Brassed Off!; Goldfinger; African Queen; Elizabeth (both Cate Blanchett's and Glenda Jackson's portrayals) ; Philadelphia Story; On Golden Pond; Thelma and Louise; Fried Green Tomatoes; Rainmaker; An Affair To Remember, and its modern take-off, Sleepless in Seattle; The Godfather, I and II, but not so much III;

Favorite Music
any and all recordings of Pictures at an Exhbition, including Emerson Lake and Palmer's version; Peter Gabriel; WIllie Nelson; Linda Rhonstadt; Glenn MIler; Tommy and JImmy Dorsey (both separately and together); Barbara Streisand; Frank Sinatra; Diana Krall; 10,000 Maniacs; The Clancey Brothers; Bob WIlls and the Texas Playboys; Kathy Mattea; The Beatles; Jefferson Airplane, and Jefferson Starship, especially Blows Against The Empire; Ben Webster; Coleman Hawkins; Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis; Art Tatum; Miles Davis (In his sextet days); Artie Shaw,; Benny Goodman; Mezz Mezzrow; Adrian Rollini; E. Power Biggs; The Mormon Tabernacle Choir; Beverly Sills; Lily Pons; Maria Callas; Billy Holiday; John McCormack; B B King; Les Paul and Mary Ford; Chet Atkins; Steve Warriner; Toby Keith; Brad Paisley; Asleep At The Wheel; Spike Jones; The Alfred Deller Consort; Pro Musica Antigua; Mozart's Woodwind Sonatas, but not his solo piano works; Beethoven's Symphonies, but not his sonatas and concerti; most of JS and CPE Bach's works; Aaron Copeland's orchestral works; Rhapsody In Blue; John Philip Sousa; Karl L King; Bagpipes (both Highland and Ulallian); and I could go on for pages and pages. Suffice it to say I like darned near anything except rap and hip-hop.
