Areola, or Aureole?

Be careful with this one! The Lush spell checker always suggests replacing areola or its plural, areolae, with aureole. It's a great feature, but wrong in this case.

Areola, from Dictionary.com:

[uh-ree-uh-luh]
–noun, plural -lae

1. a ring of color, as around the human nipple.
2. a small interstice, as between the fibers of connective tissue.

Aureole, from Dictionary.com:

[awr-ee-ohl]
–noun

1. a radiance surrounding the head or the whole figure in the representation of a sacred personage.
2. any encircling ring of light or color; halo.
3. Astronomy . corona ( def. 3 ) .
4. Geology . a zone of altered country rock around an igneous intrusion.

Ok I feel a little silly not having known there were two words and one was wrong... lol I always thought 'aureole' was the way to go. d'oh!

On the other hand, the description for aureole could be quite a poetic description of an areola. angel7

To say that an areola is like a halo around a nipple is, well, pretty. angel7

easy way to remember this (unless she has inverted niipples, in which case, you're on your own) an aureole almost has a hole in it.

Another trick is to remember that the plural is aureolae. (a before e not after - it is the standard Latin feminine plural)

But we hate to reuse the same word time and time again..

Synonyms: aura, aureola, aureole , aurora, corona, crown of light, glory, halation, nimbus, radiance

Hmmm, none are really exciting, are they?
