Oddly, the only place I've traveled and really felt like I was home was in Toronto. So I guess that makes me a struggling East Coaster and an unhappy American. Story of my life. lol

Toronto is far from the coast... Where do you live?

And don't worry... most Americans feel unhappy after they see Canada. DancingDoll might have something to say, but I would suggest Vancouver over Toronto. I hate snow.

Yeah, You'd probably prefer Munich 1939.

While I think New Jersey and Florida are two of the worst states in the union, I'm firmly an East Coast guy. New York style pizza is infinitely preferable to California style, and I love the Mad River area in Vermont and I like snow. I like that the East Coast feels a lot more compressed.

Come to BC... I think you'll be presently surprised.

And despite, the fact that we have more hockey hair, Tampa definitely has more mullets.

The Oregon Coast and Vancouver Island are beautiful.

Florida is a shithole. Especially compared to California. It's like the syphilitic cock of America that is just waiting to rot and drop off. The Keys are nice though, as are the coast of Savannah, Charleston etc.

You buggar, use your inside voice when you say this.

The first time I visited Florida, I was shocked to find a place flatter than southern Saskatchewan. It's no wonder half the state will be submerged in twenty years. But future Lake Miami still won't be an interesting place to visit.

The Gulf coast is beautiful, but I agree with Damon and others, the Pacific Northwest is breathtaking with the thousands of rocky islands, massive trees, and the abundance of wildlife. The other two coasts are really just litter-filled sand boxes, populated by noxious weeds, and ultra-cummy waters.

I don't really mean that last part. Just trying to better Damon's lovely description of that fine state of invasive species. NOW, recently declared the permanent residence of Trump and his inbred clan of misfits.

Blackpool or Scarborough? It's a tricky one...

I like this, being immediately minded to answer the question with Sydney and the great Barrier Reef versus Perth and Broome, is that even a contest? For me I have never been to Blackpool or the East Coast of the US, so I vote East in the UK and West in the US and Canada.

And of course East in Australia and in NZ too.

If we are talking about the United States, I prefer the East Coast. Yes, the West Coast is great to visit, and I've lived there for a while. But I've also lived in the East, in the Midwest, and the South. Maybe it's because I was born and raised on the East Coast, but I am infinitely more comfortable running up and down the Eastern Seaboard than driving on the Pac Highway. Think about it, the life in NYC, the seafood in Baltimore, hiking the Appilachian Trail, swimming in the Atlantic off the Carolinas and the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Georgia Peaches (and I am not talking the fruit), and the beaches and clubs of Florida. I just love it all!

Now, if you are talking any other country, I can't help you. Australia in on my bucket list, also Spain and Japan. If I do go there, I'll report back . . . maybe . . . if I come back :-)

I love where we live on the East coast but every time I visit the Pacific Northwest I could imagine how much I would love living there.

Just kidding dear Kiteares!

Have never been to the west coast of the USA, yet. Parts of California may be nice to see, but the Northwest sounds more my style.
I have been to Ocean City, MD and dang it is crowded. A few places I still want to visit on the east coast.
As for Florida I love the coast of the panhandle. The rest can fall into the ocean and I would not miss it.

So I really cannot make much of an informed decision here. As for Michigan, there are beautiful beaches on the west coast and if you get away from the really populated areas, there are some nice areas on the east.

I've lived in various parts of the US, including outside NYC. 10 years ago I moved to Seattle, and now I'm never leaving. The west coast people and overall vibe of the pacific NW are just so much nicer (IMO) -- for me, the east coast had a really negative energy to it.

Yeah I get that too. Seattle is super friendly and it seems everyone in New York is an asshole.

What really gets me is New Jersey though.... It's not a good place yet they act as if it's the best place on earth.

In Canada it's the opposite though... Vancouver is kind of a snobby stuck up city, but when I went to the east coast I was amazed at how chill and laid back everyone was.

This would be incredibly difficult for me as I love NYC and used to live very close to the Outer Banks in NC. That said, I live on the West Coast now, and probably my favorite place on Earth is that part of California that runs north from Pebble Beach to the Napa Valley.

I live in North Carolina and I’m only an hour from the beach. It’s strikingly beautiful all along the coastline. I’ve been to San Diego and it was beautiful too. Considering both coasts I’ll stick with The Tarheel State and the East coast

Raised in the southeast, lived up and down the East Coast while in the Navy. Was stationed on the West Coast and fell in love with the southwest deserts. So, if I had a choice today, I'd go back to the West Coast.

EAST COAST RULES!

I truly love New York City. Fond of California, and I can't wait to take a train up the Western California coast with my betrothed, so perhaps my preferences will change. But my formative young adult years were spent in NYC, so I suspect I am (happily) stuck with them.

California doesn't want you, traitorous east coast scum.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

This a question designed to be divisive. The E N T I R E country has something to offer. I've been to 49 of the 50 states (Alaska still beckons) and have found each and every state to have something to offer and something to despise. The four coasts (Atlantic, Pacific, Great Lakes, Gulf) are the same; different yet with something to offer. While my dad was in the Air Force, we lived on both coasts and both are great places with opportunities to sate every appetite. Maybe if everyone spent more time traveling and meeting people outside of their own cliche, the entire country might be better off.
