When I was young I was at a sitters house (staying over) and they lived out in the woods. I was watching The Howling in complete darkness with a sliding glass door looking out over pitch black woods not 10 feet from my head and just behind me. I have to say it scared the begeezus out of me to where I couldn't even think of watching it again until a few years ago. Needless to say, it didn't have the same effect, so I'm going with Hellraiser as my favorite.

Hi Kathleen,

Funny Games is about a family (mother, father, son in early teens - and a dog) on vacation in the Austrian countryside, staying in an isolated house. A few hours after their arrival, two, clean-cut men (in their early 20s) knock at the door asking to borrow some eggs. It's from that point that it starts to get weird, as the two men keeping coming back to the house and asking for more things, and acting stupid - i.e. Funny Games. It then becomes much darker. The family are held captive and tortured.

What makes this film shocking is that there is never a reason given for the actions of the two men; it's purely sadistic. In some of the torture scenes, the perpetrators engage with the viewer, by looking directly at the camera and asking why you continue to watch. This is most disconcerting. There's no happy ending, either. C.

The all time scariest movie for me would have to be Stephen King's It. Frightened me years ago and still scares the hell out of me today. I'm a huge Tim Curry fan, but just seeing that clown gives me the shivers... and not in a good way!

Others I love would be The Vanishing, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Hellraiser, and Pet Cemetery.

Like some of those too ... mine would be "Fatal Attraction" with Glenn Close and Michael Douglas ... a real white nuckle thriller and psycho-romance movie ...

Sounds good Charley. I'd like to see it.
I like movies that are supposed to scare the shit out of you. Sadly most moviemakers now think that a bucket of blood will do it. I think it's the mind games that really do it a lot of the time.

What Lies Beneath is a really good one too! Its not gory scary, just edge of your seat scary. LOL

Oh and that one with Angelina Jolie....I cant remember what its called though....

Cell was good and I hear they're making it into a movie.

Freddy v. Jason made me laugh. Somewhere along the line Freddy stopped being scary and started being funny.

My all time favorite is the original Halloween movie.

Scream is the runner up. I love all four of them.
