I think the avatar photo should be a true reflection of how the person sees himself (or herself). I agree but I think most av's are not the actual people mine certainly is not but it is the closest thing to me I could find in the public domain on the net. I agree with the opinion that the best avatars are a reflection of yourself. Expressing yourself implies freedom of choice thus some people are guaranteed to be offended by what you choose.
