No, I really don't think I would like that at all. Sometimes you don't want to remember certain days or events.

I wouldn't mind a photographic memory I could control somewhat.

I don't see why you wouldn't want to but maybe I'm missing a very obvious reason why you wouldn't want this ability. Seems like a complete positive to me.

Yes - the pros outweigh the cons...I'd give anything to have a memory longer than a gold fish...
there's always certain medications that have amnestic effects - on the other hand - there's no medication to achieve 20/20 memory...is there?

Yes, I would. For the sole reason that I lost my father when I was six and I only have bits and pieces of him in my mind. To a child who lost a parent at so young an age I wish...no I would have had like to have more memories to remember him by. I barely recall his face and how good a father he was. He must have been, based on the stories I heard repeated to me too many times but failed to trigger a memory. He must have been a loving father and a good husband. I wish I had those memories of him to share to others. Anything about him, but I only have a few faded photographs now for 'show and tell' and I could hardly remember the stories behind it. It must have been nice to recall those times for we both look happy then.

For me the answer is no. Too many bad memories I'm grateful I no longer remember. I love how my mind protects my heart.

Where am I?

No. I'm very forgetful as it is, but it would be too much to remember everything...I would love to be able to remember jokes or information for trivia because I suck at that.

Yes I'd love to remember everything and be able to recall it in an instant. A wonderful gift for work and also when I was taking my exams at school.
I can understand why others wouldn't want to remember everything but me....... well I'm a thinker and the ability to remember all would compliment my thoughts.

I already have a virtual photographic memory people tell me, and I can tell you, it is a VERY mixed bag. The memories of so many of the truly precious things I have seen in this life, and on the whole, my life has been a good one, can be what makes me go on. The memory of all that human creativity has added to the beauty and goodness of this life, make me love life deeply and helps me to do what good and beautiful things I do myself. (But far too little for my liking---and I do give it my best shot.)
But being ultra-curious I have learned too much about man's cruelty to man, some of it so horrible I am afraid to tell others about them. Put together with personal hurts I am often sleepless when they come into my mind.
YET, in spite of all that, to be able, as our earlier member said about his Dad, to remember what made Uncle Joe so special, Auntie Jeanie so sweet, and how incredibly good some people have been to me and others, makes my memories so bitter sweet.

I used to tell my Uni students the joke I made up that life is like Tiramisu, the great Italian dessert. smile It can be very sweet but always has a touch of bitter espresso on top.
But between the sweetness of the dessert and the awakening power of the espresso, as bitter as it is, it is in contrast to that bitterness that what tastes good can now taste wonderful!
So, I love having a great memory. Besides it makes me more humble and grateful to those who have shown me love even though they may not love me anymore, I still love what they gave me of themselves. I'm glad I have a good memory.
Do I want to have perfect memory? Only a god could have that, no?

No. Some things are best forgotten. I do not want to dwell on the past it will only mess
with my future.

I'm in agreement with those who say ABSOLUTELY NOT! Just as the ability TO remember is a gift; so to is the ability TO FORGET! One example to prove the point is the PTSD which like many others: OTHER combat veterans, battered spouses and crime victims I too suffer with. PTSD IS the INABILITY to forget incidents that have forever scarred our psyche's. Having PTSD is neither a weakness nor a flaw, it is a NORMAL human reaction to being victimized in a terrifying and terrorizing manner or witnessing more carnage than our own psyche can handle and THEN DUE to the amount of damage done to our psyche being unable to forget it. So, to ANYONE who says that they WOULD like to remember EVERYTHING; all I can say is be VERY careful what you ask for! You just MIGHT get it!

Absolutely yes. Be able to remember (hyperthymesia?) and recall past event and experiences? Oh yes, I would. It’s my life.

I remember the really great and real awful events regardless without any help of a super memory, so why not remember it all. It would only help further into the present.

The "I want to forget" does not help at all. How can it be? Also, I cannot change it. It's how I interact and forgive myself of others (not forget) with that horrible experience that it's helpful.

I cannot see why everyone would not want it.

I think that I would want to. I hate when I forget bits and pieces of details.
But, it reminded me of this quote:

Many a man fails as an original thinker simply because his memory it too good.
