Facebook was recently invaded by a robot army created by four researchers to demonstrate the ease at which online social networks can be maliciously exploited by the unscrupulous.

With a horde of 102 bogus Facebook friends, the University of British Columbia researchers showed that they could harvest personal information on members not publically available on the social network and that its defenses were inadequate to cope with a large scale infiltration.

During the course of an eight week campaign on Facebook, the researchers gathered 250GB of information from thousands of the social network's members. Their "sockpuppet" bots were "friended" by more than 3000 members and the network reached more than a million profiles.
The same GQP demanding we move on from January 6th, 2021 is still doing audits of the November 3rd, 2020 election.

I have facebook and I watched a bunch of my friends add someone who said they went to our high school and graduated in the same class as us. I said to them do you people seriously think she went to school with us. My school was a predominately african american all girls school. There were only a few white people in the school, and you would know exactly if that person was in our graduating class and school. I won add random people because you never know what information they could get.

Ugh... I didn't like you then I thought I made that clear why would you ask to be my friend now? Did you ask just so you can see your number of friends go up?

I absolutely hate the whole popularity contest thing on Facebook. I have 87 friends. I speak to them all regularly I do not add people I bumped into on the street or hit with my car!

Definitely, Facebook has its pros and cons...

I personally like catching up with old work or school friends that are strewn across the country...
I haven't seen them for years and I think its a great way to keep in touch without the hassle of tracking them down or going to those god awful school reunions.

I also found it was a great way to network. I used to own a restaurant and could put up the friday evening specials as my status update.
Lo and behold, there would be 4 or 5 different people I know on my friends list in for dinner.

I'm not going to tell them what I've eaten for breakfast or that I've clipped my toenails or some other useless piece of info that not even I care to know.
But if I have achieved something I've been working towards... you're damn right I'm going to tell all my friends. And thats what my facebook friends list consists of.
