I see BB, whisper, or private chat all as forms of private chat. And what difference does it make. If your not wanting the cyber, then you need to control it via the conversation. But a private chat can also be a friendly chat without any cyber. It all between the talking parties.

Because I'm on my phone a lot when I browse lush, I find that the black boxes, although sometimes annoying, work better than a chat window... On the iPhone at least...

Plus, at least with BBs, I can jump onto my computer too, without losing the person I'm talking to.

I've always thought of black boxes like an IM. A quick way for a friend to say hey to me or to let me know something quickly like what chat room they are in. To me privating is to go to a private chat room. I absolutely Do Not consider black boxes as privating!

To me it depends on the level of intimacy of the conversation. Some people don't do chat rooms, and black boxing is an easy and quick way to shoot the breeze. It's kind of like text messaging. It pops up and you respond quickly and at your leisure.

Private chats are more calculated. Going into them, you know what both parties are after. Of course there are exceptions, so that's not in ALL cases.

Also, I believe that private chats are kind of intimate in general, which is why I don't do it. It's like sitting across from someone and having dinner with them and being obligated to converse.

I would say "yes", it is a private conversation/chat between two people. The content does not matter, it is not like a "reply all" text and numerous persons are on the text.
Having said that I do not see an issue with bb messages, I use them to say hello, etc, a generally easy method of communication here on Lush.

I'm not quite sure I fully understand the question. As a way to carry a "private convers.", I think that is fine.

IF...do I think BB's are "private and secure" from ever being called up again for "review"...one can find a "history" in the email dept...and I'm pretty sure things are archived somewhere or other. Soooo...just be careful what you say as Big Brother/Big Sister just might find out. This is true in REAL LIFE as well as here on LUSH. JMHO!!

BB is a private conversation between two people. Just as a private room is or whispering in a public chat room.. They are all private conversations. What you chat about.. the context of your conversation I believe is what determines whether the conversation is meant to be "private". So what are we trying to determine, is "Private " the same as "cybering". Context/content is everything in my opinion.

I don't know they are both pretty private, however "private chat" usually means you have the person's undivided attention so it definitely feels more intimate. Really tho, it just comes down to personal preference.

I dont consider BB as private messaging, more of an IM as Shortnsassyone said. Its just a quick way of saying hello, a snapshot conversation for that moment in time. Personally I like them as I dont use the chat rooms etc so for me just a simple way of staying in touch with friends.

I usually use BB to say hi, to see it my friend is on line, and has the time to chat. I use chat like an IM, once I know what the status is. I haven't been in a private room in months.

My penneth. Communicating via black boxes is a 'private' exchange since nobody else is party to that. However clearly on here, just my view before I get bombarded with rotten eggs, I would say that if you went into a chat room and asked if anyone wanted to chat privately with you more than 50% would expect the chat to be of a sexual nature and maybe cybersex. Some like me however may just actually want to discuss the 5% increase in the wholesale price of bananas imported from Australia or the British weather. Sometimes I find I have to remind myself just what the nature/theme of Lush is but I do understand that not everyone who uses this site is here for anything more than a platonic relationship/friendship which of course is absolutely fine and that should be respected by anyone they have contact with.

Yes it is private and you usually know when someone is BB ing several at once, as they are slow to respond! It is just a smaller box than the dedicated chat box option. Both are private by definition - no-one else but the two of you are reading what you say! Chat rooms are the only non-private place on Lush ;)

Ok seriously now I am confused, you said earlier in the thread that your question had nothing to do with cybering. I think you need to have phrased the question better TBH babes this is why you are getting so many conflicting answers.

You asked do pple consider bb boxes as privating so define what you mean by privating so we are all clear?? I still consider BB messaging as a private conversation whether it cyber or not.

Had you asked would you consider going into a private chat room, which you didn't then yes I would consider going to a private chat room as being for cyber, not that i ever have nor would I.
