A few years ago i would have argued to my dying breath that when you are dead, you are dead, if you were to be born again or there was an after life, why would you die in the first place ?
I have to make it clear now, I do NOT believe in ghost's, spirit's(well only the ones you can drink), or people who claim to be able to communicate with the dead.
But something happened a few years ago I cannot explain, I did not have a near death experiance, or see a white light or any crap like that, but over night my extreamly strong views on death and after life changed. A friend's husband (whom I hardly knew) had died a few weeks before, and I was visiting my friend, as far as I am concerned nothing out of the ordinary happened, so by the morning when I woke, why had my views changed, and why am I no longer afraid of death?
The second thing, why, sorry how, did another friend who lives 150 miles from me and does not know the first friend call me 2 days before my 40th birthday and TELL me, not to go out on my motorbike like i was planning to do, i had not told anyone i was planning on taking my bike out, and casually used my friends husbands name as the message giver ?????? This freaked me out to say the least, and on my birthday I got my leathers on, started the bike up, lifted the garage door, got on my bike,,,,,, and burst into tears. needless to say i did not move my bike an inch for about 2 weeks after. And have refused to talk to my friend outright about that phone call. SO Afterlife ????? More to life ??????? I am more confused about it now than ever, but I do know that we all die, so make the most of your life as you can, because we'r only here for a short time, so enjoy it. Sorry if I'v bored you all, but this is the total truth, until something happens, you never know.

You didn't bore me at all! I think it is a beautiful story and thank you for sharing!!!!

Some people really deserve that.

I think there is an afterlife, that we have a soul.
I don't believe in God, a Soul or an afterlife.... But I DO believe that as conscious beings we should try to make the world we live in a better place. Especially 'cos it's all we have and all we'll ever have...

We've evolved into empathic creatures, (well, most of us have....) We KNOW when we hurt others and we KNOW that's wrong... (Unlike, say, Orca Killer Whales, who, while relatively clever, probably don't suffer nightmares after gobbling up a newly born Grey Whale calf in the presence of it's exhausted mother... At least I don't THINK they do....) The Orcas don't feel a connection with a creature of another species... They just feel hungry. As humans, most of us have evolved a bit more. We KNOW when we do something bad. So we either don't do it, do it anyway and try to live with it OR (perhaps most interestingly) convince ourselves that what we're doing ISN'T REALLY A BAD THING.... (ie The Nazis, etc)...

Many religions seem to excuse the awful things we do to each other by saying that "in the next life" the wrong-doers will be punished and the people who have been victimised will get rewarded/compensated(????) That really doesn't work for me...

If you have children and they do something dangerous or bad, you correct them for their own protection and their own good. Yet, we're supposed to be God's children and He doesn't EVER do that... (If God was a REAL parent we'd all be living with Social Services...) And He/She'd be on trial for willful neglect...

Somebody quoted the beautiful XTC song, 'Dear God'.... XTC have another song called 'The Smartest Monkeys'.... (In truth, I don't think we're even that....) But we should never stop trying to be smart.

Asking questions like the one our Lush Guest asked is ONE of the reasons we're here on Earth...

I like the format adopted by my heroine, Chef, so....

"Do you think there is more to life than just what we live on earth?"
Absolutely

"Do you think there is an afterlife of some sort?"
Of some sort? As commented by others, there are life experiences that have happened (to me) that have convinced me there is 'something' after death, a way for our essence (soul?) to continue on another plane of existence.

"Do you think there is a God who created us and has a purpose for us?"
No. Not in the manner in which organised religious rams down our throats.

"Or do you think that we are here on earth to just enjoy life,"
Oh yeah baby! But still tempered with humanity

"help people and do what we can to make the world better"
I am no saint, but I do believe in doing unto others as I would have done unto me and, in my world, that helps make it a better place.
