For our poetry lovers, comes a competition just for you. There's a $100 1st Prize up for grabs, and a challenging deadline of 2 weeks in which to enter.

Competition Theme:

St. Valentine's Day is celebrated on February 14 each year. It is an occasion in which lovers express their love for each other.

Writing a poem for a loved one, has always traditionally been a popular medium in which people articulate their feelings for each other.

Breaking with tradition, as we like to do, as an additional challenge to our authors, you need to show your linguistic ability by expressing the emotion of love, in a way which isn't cliche!

With that in mind, certain rules need to be adhered to:

- Poems must not use the words, "love", "rose", "stars", "ocean" or "heart".

- Poems must include the word, "Valentine".

Full details here.

So this is alright then?

I loves ya baby .. your boat race reminds me of a bunch of roses in a vase (needs cleaning) whilst the star are in the night sky (turn the light on for goodness sake; where the hell have the rest gone?) and our hearts melt into one whilst we have a butchers at the oceans outta the window. Happy VD my lil cauliflower.
Have you been drinking?
holy crap. YAYYYYYY.

lmao

thanks. Nicola.

rubs my hands together.

I live for love and Valentine's Day.

Glad to see a poetry contest!

Me too. Is this a first?
Working on my Valentine's day poem... need some help - what rhymes with "Gas Chamber"?

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

Throbbing member?

Oh cool!!! How exciting! I imagine this competition will encourage lots of people who wouldn't normally enter, which will be good to see!! Might even give this a crack myself smile

Hey Nicola, will Lush be able to drop the time limit on scoring for this one? I know with (I think) the flash erotica comp, it got really frustrating having to wait and wait for the limit to pass to score on stories? Just a thought...

Is it possible to drop the time limit after earning the electorate badge?

Can I steal that line?

Oh yeah! A poetry contest.
I love the idea of it being non-traditional, staying away from the hearts and flowers fluff.
That makes it interesting and challenging too.

That Sprite though... We may be creating a monster.

I think I am going to truly enjoy this and throw one in.

Doing the happy dance...
(Of course, I'm always looking for reasons to shake my behind.)

? A True Story ?

I love you, Will - Marry me?

This a an interesting and challenging competition, and I am certainly going to give it a go.

St Valentine's Day was originally a religious festival, but the association of the Roman saint and martyr Valentine with romantic love grew up during the high middles ages, when the tradition of Courtly Love (generally unrequited love) flourished, and evolved into the custom we know today in 18th century England, as an occasion for lovers to express their love for each other presenting flowers, offering confectionary and sending greeting cards. It is in the spirit of the Age of Courtly Love that I will compose my poem, but the genre offers the opportunity for a wide range of responses, and I look forward in great anticipation to what my fellow competitors come up with, and I wish them all the best of luck.

Of course I will. I've already updated my profile page.

And check out my entry...

There once was a man from Nantucket,
He fell hard for the island's cum bucket.
She had the men form a line.
He asked her his Valentine,
And she gave him her ass to fuck it.

This poetry shit writes itself.
My latest story is a racy little piece about what happens when someone cute from work invites you over to watch Netflix and Chill.
Good fun. I will be traveling so I needed to kick my own ass and get this puppy done early. No more hugging the out of bounds line. Hope a few readers like my effort.

This is my first competition, would you mind telling me how it works? Votes and whatnot? (I posted on the forum in case others wondered the same.)

Thanks!

First and foremost, make sure you read all general contest rules...and also pay attention to the rules regarding this contest in particular (there are certain words and metaphors and such not allowed for this contest).

In regards to voting, you need 10 to qualify you in the contest. Meaning once your story gains at least 10 votes, it's officially in the running, and will be judged by our super secret contest panel, the SSCP, if you will.

Also, voting is anonymous. You won't see who votes or how many votes you have (I could be wrong about how many, so maybe someone could confirm this).

That's really it in terms of voting. Good luck!

Yes, vote count and average score are hidden for comp entries until the competition has closed.

Thank you. I read both sets of rules, I was just curious about the voting and whatnot. smile

gorgeous entries...insanely beautiful.

I would HATE to judge this.

it'd be IMPOSSIBLE!

I want to add my endorsement for the idea of a poetry contest. They may not be as popular as the recounting of doing dastardly deeds with horny cheerleaders and the MILF next door, but a lot of us here really enjoy them.
“It's nice sometimes to open up the heart a little and let some hurt come in. It proves you're still alive.”
*coughs* for the love of god, i know people like to be creative when they submit poems, but when you center align them, it creates all sorts of problems for the mods - please please please, don't try to make shapes, don't try to get fancy, just align to the left like normal. thank you very very much. smile
