The one thing that I don’t understand about the use of avatars is why a male, who claims to be straight, will use a female type of avatar to represent them. Why would they feel they needed to use a female related picture to tell us a little about themselves? Some even have female sounding names. Are they secretly trying to hide something?

I personally think that men use female pics or female sounding names to attract people to look at their profiles, just to get the view number up. They may say their straight when secretly a little curious. Some person had a go at me for my avatar not matching my name!! I think he thought I was a female and when he saw that I wasn't he was most pissed. Well V*****L you can go and **** yourself!! But, I also believe some women profiles are men too!! Ha ha
I haven't seen many in this situation and I just thought that they chose that picture because they like it... but it also confusses me a little.
Now THAT is really troublesome, Mostly I try to read the profile of person with whom I am talking to ...to know something about them. But av pic does make a first impression to decide the basic info (like male or female in general). So because of this "switching the av pics" game I've been fooled a couple of times ( ugh embarassing).
A MILD irritation, considerably MORE irritating are those with multiple profiles including some "females" who AREN'T female rather they are males HOPING to get personal pics from lesbians that they wouldn't get a glance at honestly.
Well..just to clear my case..since i am a closet crossdresser.....i put up female avatars .

I'm not going to speak for anyone else, just for myself. I picked a female avatar because I felt it best represented what I'm looking for here - and in life I think. At the risk of being sexist I think women feel more readily, more fully than men do. Generally speaking they are less likely to hide or quash their feelings. And, while I am bi, I think the female body is simply much more beautiful than the male body. I think I just wanted to express - to everyone who looks at my profile - that I want to feel - want to feel him or her - and I want to feel and express my own feelings. And somehow using a beautiful woman's picture just felt right. Sort of a cry for help I suppose.

Well, I do it because it's a picture that I liked a lot - and because I'm not going to post a photo of me in any event! My profile is honest about me being male - and my name, I would think, would tell people I'm male. Most women, in my experience, would not choose to use the word "dog" as part of their user name...
I make no pretense of being a woman, I simply like the picture and would rather see it than some strange guy on my page. All these guys that use pictures of perfect male pecs and abs - do you think that's always their own picture?? What difference does it make, since Lush is a fantasy playground anyway?
Not sure why straight men might use a female avatar, unless it is intended just to be an image of something they like.
