I haven't used my old laptop since I was gifted an iPad. The pros for laptops are fast dwindling with decline of physical media and the rise of cloud storage

One of the first things I got for it was a Bluetooth keyboard which makes writing on the tablet a hell of a lot easier. The next thing I got was the camera connection kit - despite the name this essentially adds a USB in port to your iPad allowing you to connect most things you'd be able to connect to your laptop. Both of these cost around £20 each.

All that said though, for interacting on Lush though, a laptop still wins.

I like laptops because you can put them on a surface. You can do the same with tablets, but then you need to go getting stands and stuff like that. The full sized keyboard is the main advantage for me, but if I'm doing something small, like transferring money, especially on the go, a tablet is ideal. They do both have their places, but for writing and everyday use, a laptop can't be beat. For casual use and smaller tasks, a tablet is good.

I think each has it's place .. depending how yr lifestyle blends with these tools ... for me it's laptop and smart phone ... tablet just overlaps .

Do I confess here that I still write letters? No. 1 grandmother, plus several elderly aunts, do not know how to use a computer

I have a 15" Macbook Pro with Retina display, solid state drive and 8 gigs of memory, and I LOVE IT!! Its razor thin, light, runs cool, very portable, and lightning fast! Its perfect for writing because it has a full-size back-lit keyboard, and I carry it with me everywhere. No tablet could do what this thing does!

I'll take the tablets every time, little pink ones that slip down easily. X marks the spot lol

I could not imagine sitting and typing out a whole story on a touch screen, I would go absolutely mad! I've had a tablet, actually 2, and both never got used. I don't find them useful in anyway. I love the touch, and sound of typing away on a keyboard... click click click

I'll go for a Lappy, Lenovo Yoga series Laptops or HP notebooks are good. A lappy with a detachable screen is also a good one, works fine as both tab and lappy.

I have both a laptop and (gifted) tablet; I always seem to find myself using the laptop though. Like Jessica said, I just prefer the noise of a laptop when I'm typing. Plus, while the tablet is good for doing simple things like searching the web, I still need a laptop for work. And writing on a tablet is way too hard.

I'm always writing, researching or taking notes, portability and access are important to me--whether it's professionally or personally. Sorry, I'm addicted to iPad. I have 2 minis and one standard size one. The mini iPad is perfect for my bag and I use my regular one for my lectures. I love that they are all in sync, automatically. My iPhone syncs up too. I have an app for writing that transfers well to my laptop without a problem. I love my laptops (and for some reason I go through them rather quickly), but I'm finding that I can't live without my pads. Sometimes I use the Bluetooth keypad, but I'm pretty quick without it.

Uhm...I also like color coordinating my covers with what I'm wearing. For techies, I know that's cringe worthy.

I have an iPhone 5s, mini retina iPad, iPad 2, MacBook Pro, and 27" retina iMac, so I probably qualify as a nerd or whatever the modern term is. I tend to write on either of my iPads using Textilus or Word. As a one finger typist I do just as well with the iPad keyboard as with a proper keyboard, although I do get a bit cross with the Apple text checker.

Microsoft Surface Pro. A full computer in Tablet form. And yes, it will run Crysis.

Yesss! This is me. I'm an iPad junky. I have a Mac but iPad goes where I go. When I taught it was my lifeline. Syncs to what ever. Now all the students have them. Thank you Steve Jobs wherever you are.

Looking back at my first post in this thread from almost two years ago, I'll have to say I have mellowed on tabs a bit. I think that a tab with a detachable keyboard (like a Surface Pro, though there are similar options for iPad and various Android tabs) would actually be a suitable replacement for a laptop for me now. The speed, storage, and display quality are definitely up to snuff now and the keyboard deals with my ongoing inability to type efficiently on touchscreens (though the excellent onscreen keyboard on my new Galaxy S6 has even mellowed me on that quite a bit). Have not actually tried it yet, but I'm now open to it.

I've 3 devices: powerfull notebook (win10, dockin station, external keybord, external video ecc), a small 9" transformable netbook (win10, 4g, very light and comfortable to take around during travels where I can't take heavy things) and a small 7" android tablet (surfing, quick mailing and reading e-books, pdf etc. mainly when on bed or at the beach).
They are all great but for different kinds of use.
The small netbook is very good to connect to notebook or office pc working like I'm there.
