OK, I want a Matryoshka by Bananana Effects…

Bought the Matryoshka online. It said "pre-order", so I figured it might take a few months, but it seems to be on its way already.

Time for an update: the Matroyshka is weird and fun. Not very usable for the music I play, but still weird and fun

I've been buying some other (new?) stuff as well:

1972-'74 Fender Bassman 50

https://images.reverb.com/image/upload/s--ihkyuaDt--/a_exif,c_limit,e_unsharp_mask:80,f_auto,fl_progressive,g_south,h_620,q_90,w_620/v1485650947/bnyyp9kgetf6sgo2ffgi.jpg

Now I just need to find a matching 2x 12" Fender bass cabinet.

MXR MC401 - Boost/Line Driver

And last week: a Squier Bass VI

https://d1aeri3ty3izns.cloudfront.net/media/34/341779/1200/preview.jpg

The headstock on mine says Fender, but it was sold as a Squier and the logo is a bit blurry so I guess a previous owner has tried to make it look like genuine Fender. I need to have it setup properly, the action is currently way too high. And I'll also need to get used to having 6 strings again, and having a whammy bar!

Not as many guitar lovers on Lush as I thought, lol.

I'm a guitar lover, though these days I play an archtop and rarely plug in, much less use effects.

Back when I had a Strat and was wriiting rock songs, I love my Tube Screamer.

My amp was cutting out when i turned different knobs, ran into this in the past, where the knobs are ( such as volume and such ) behind them , on the inside , are something called Pots, they are connected to your control knobs, there's a tiny hole in them, get some deoxit D5 and spray a little in the hole and move the knob back and forth. You'll actually feel it start to loosen up.

Good as new

Thought i would share this little fix it yourself trick in case you didn't know...

Note: Same works on guitar volume tone knobs as well, they have pots attached to them as well, also, you can spray wherever cords plug into, takes care of any cut out issues there as well, unless you have a bad cord. In that case, get your ass to your local music store and get a new one.

Finally found a Bassman 2x12" cabinet, so this is now my setup (sans pedals, as I lend my pedalboard out to one of my band members):

It's actually not a Fender, but a Squier. But the previous owner put a Fender decal on it. So it's now essentially a Faker. I was thinking about making a decal myself with a Fender style logo that says Surfer, but that's still just an idea.

Anyway, it's a Bass VI, from 2014 if I'm correct, based on the Fender Bass VI of the early '60s. As you can see it resembles a regular guitar, but it is truly a bass, tuned E to E, one octave below a regular guitar.

I'm currently in a surf rock band, hence the idea for the Surfer logo, for which the Bass VI is a nice match.

oh duh.. i didn't even realize that, now looking back at your previous posts, i should have picked up on that LOL To be honest, i looked through this thread a long time ago but haven't in a while, i was just bored and started talking about how i fixed my amp and posted a pic..

I only looked at your recent post/photo.. haha

i thought it was a guitar. thats pretty cool, six string bass..

I'm not really familiar with surf rock, but I'm ok with different. I get bored with the same old same old of 70's - to whatever era of rock/metal... I haven't played anybody else's stuff in quite some time.. I actually just started up again. played only a handful of times since Feb, messed up my hand and by the time i had recovered, i went into a slump again..

I haven't jammed with anybody since early in the year ( winter ) or last year..

I love that setup though..

Where most 6 string basses usually add a string on either side of the regular 4 string bass spectrum, this one adds 2 on the high end. And because the spacing between the strings is a lot less than on regular basses this one makes it a lot easier to be played like a regular guitar.

Bass VI as a lead bass:

Bass VI played as a regular guitar: Pictures of You (live) by The Cure with Robert Smith on Bass VI.

As for surf, I'm sure you do know Misirlou by Dick Dale and The Del-Tones.

Playing with others is the best part of music, even covers. Misirlou was a cover for sure.

The bridge that came with my Bass VI had some well known issues for that type of bridge, like strings popping out of the saddles when playing hard, so I replaced it with a Mastery offset bridge yesterday. Had my first rehearsal with it this evening and it seems to work just fine.

I originally wanted to replace it with a Staytrem wide bridge, but these are no longer available outside the UK unfortunately.

Bought the Oceans 11 from Electro-Harmonix yesterday. It has 11 reverbs/echo/tremolo effects, but I bought is for its spring reverb emulation as it has a pretty good drippy surf sound.
Oh and it even emulates a kicked spring tank when you double tab the footswitch (5:37 in the video)

So I bought this thing, I was having music store withdrawals, I've played it before so i already know what I'm getting, but found it online "blemished" for a solid price at $645... ( normally $799 on sale )

I just couldn't wait any longer.

LOL, "So I bought this thing..."

Is that how you broke it to the wife that you spent the grocery money on a guitar?

Just playin, I know to you a guitar is an essential purchase

I had other pictures around here, somewhere, and I may have deleted some off my phone,

I dont have that Les Paul anymore, I got rid of it, but that yamaha acoustic is my fav, that strat is ok, but its got a tuning problem, I'm taking it to a really good Luthier Monday.

also not pictured, Cordoba classical and another Fender Acoustic ( not sure where the pics are of those ) and my Peavy 2x12 amp with my RP12 ancient digitech processor.

The Les Paul was my favorite. but got rid of it for reasons, all my stuff needs work except that Yamaha acoustic pictured. that works great, so i play that more than anything now.

I'm looking forward to getting home tonight, the box is waiting for me, it arrived today.. Hopefully it doesn't need setup, I'm not that great at that and I always take it to somebody,

The guy that does mine is old, he's still taking stuff, but its, leave it in his garage at appointed time, and pick up in his garage at appointed time, and FaceTime if you need to have a conversation.

I didn't expect to find this thread here but I've enjoyed reading it.
I'm friends with a lot of bands, sometimes I write lyrics for their songs.

I can twaddle around on a guitar, heavy metal pedals make me sound half decent (in my ears anyway).

My pedal is a cheap Boss Metalzone II, it makes even me sound like Pantera.

This is one of mine:

Little by little by little you get eaten away
Little by little by little it gets harder to stay

The scaffold is held by poles of mutual loathing
Little by little by little you disrobe independent clothing

Stone by stone you build up defences to the scorn
Little by little by little you heal the rips he's torn

Until you're left with nothing
But hateful repulsion to his face
& varying degrees of distaste

You're a grenade, he'll tug your pin
If he says one more thing

Little by little by little you get buried alive
Of your old self your new self loses sight
You lie exposed in a pale & filtered sun
Bleaching the colour from your ever dwindling fun

Little by little by little by little by little by little by little
by little by little by little by little by little you give in

Not as many guitar lovers on Lush as I thought, lol.

Sorry, I took a 10 year break from Lush to obsess over guitar gear, I didn't realise I could combine the two!

When I joined, I had a Squier Strat that I got for my 14th birthday (apparently the first year they stopped making them out of plywood...), a shitty solid state amp, two multi-effects pedals, a Crybaby and a Marshall Guv'nor 2, all on a different continent. I have since changed the pickups in the Squier, acquired a Gibson LPJ (essentially a Les Paul Junior), an Epiphone Thunderbird, a BlackStar valve amp, a small Vox valve amp, a small Hartke bass amp, a Fryette Power Station attenuator, and about 30 pedals. My playing, on the other hand, is still shit. Ask the gear acquisition is a bit ironic, given the music I want to play requires only a guitar, amp going to 11, then maybe some skulls, decomposing animal carcasses and a burning church for atmosphere, but there, you go, I like making noise. My 2 year old also likes to twiddle the knobs, so that's a bonus.

Like children, my favourite pedal is whichever one asked me, er, I mean, I can't pick one, they are all essential. But I do have a sentimental attachment to the Crybaby, because it was my first pedal, and also the first one I ever modded. It now has true bypass, the buffer removed, knobs for gain (so it can drive the amp a little just on its own, or alternatively, stay ultra clean, bass boost, and Q (fairly subtle difference to the shape of the Way curve), plus a rotary switch to change the main capicitor, which shifts the whole frequency range of the sweep. I think I gave myself 5 options - original, same as the Jimi Hendrix version, same as the Jerry Cantrell version, same as the bass version and one between the bass and JC one on the off chance I ever get a baritone guitar. I don't need must of that, but it was fun.

It's about 9 months since my last guitar related purchase, which was a Lastgasp Art Laboratories Transroom analog reverb. I still haven't tried it because we moved house and all guitars and amps are still in boxes, unfortunately. No doubt that will be my favourite for a while once I get a chance to play it.
