So the rumor is people are saying Kate Upton is too heavy to be a swin suit model???

Who is saying this? I've never heard anything like that.
What the flaming hell fuck is this? shes amazing. the world is a bad bad place . We should really just all give up and live by night in a dark cave if this is fact.
My gawd! I should be the poster child for Little Debbie snack cakes then!
She's a beautiful natural looking girl with a lot of sex appeal. She is actually a great size as a swimsuit model (although I have heard criticism that she isn't toned enough). I think based on typical runway model standards, she is too big. Let's make it clear - I'm not saying that - but that's the complaint that I would expect (most) high end fashion houses and designers would have. When you're doing haute couture runway - the girls are typically a size 0-2. I think it would be great for designers to use more accessible looking body types like Kate's. In the meantime, she's perfectly sized as a mainstream swimwear/lingerie model.

I have heard that Victoria Secret has refused to use her because she looks too average/pedestrian. Although, in recent years, I think that Vic Secret has veered more towards the thinner body type models than the days when Heidi Klum and Tyra Banks were the ones in demand.
I think she is gorgeous. Anorexia is not sexy but society keeps pushing the 'thin as a rail' envelope.

I hadn't heard any of this, but it does make sense. She has runway-model stature (5'10" if I recall), so naturally, at some point, comments would be made in reference to her 'modeling' qualities. It's almost unfair to judge any woman vs. a runway model, even women of world-class beauty and appeal like Kate Upton. They're often not even "pretty", but through genetics and hard work, they fit a very specific body type and are highly skilled. Some do cross over to lingerie and retail fashion modeling. And so yes, I can see how Kate would be considered too heavy by 20 or so pounds, and not toned enough to fit that mold. And as head-shaking as the instant reaction to that may be, it might be that Kate Upton's ill-fit as a potential runway model is a prime example of how futile and just plain unhealthy it is judge ourselves on that standard.

I think the trap to avoid here is equating industry model standards with "what men want," or "what we as women should aspire to." The polling has been done, here at Lush and in western society at large, and men don't, by and large, seek out size-2, 6'-1" women. They don't look at Kate Upton and think "ugh, could she please mix in a few sit-ups? Jesus Christ, she's flabby."

Just because VS or any other fashion line (to say nothing of the haute couture houses) has a very strict and specific requirement for their models, it doesn't mean that their standards are a mirror of society's standards for women. Unless you're auditioning for modeling work at Prada, nobody's saying you should be a size 0 with a tiny ass and a bony face.

In my opinion, Kate Upton is damn near perfect, right down to the fact that her body isn't robotically fit and trim. She seems real*, and no less sexy or beautiful for it.

*though not necessarily attainable, of course LOL. But also not 'plastic', or with innate aloofness, the way models like Klum and Gisele, and even Brooklyn Decker seem to be.
My thoughts.... that is just darn silly.

She's the type of girl that seems to fluctuate between those 10-15lbs fairly regularly.

I think she looks great and very 'industry ready' here:

But is definitely much more voluptuous here:

To me - she looks great in all of the pics as far as being a beautiful/desirable girl goes, but if she wants a long term career as a model, the industry holds you to a much higher standard than your average hot girl.

It feels like the industry needs to shift down to more attainable and healthy images but as far as runway goes - it's not about the model. It's about being a coat-hanger for the clothes. I don't see that changing. Aside from the fun and eclectic Betsey Johnson type designers, most fashion labels prefer the girls to be as neutral as possible and not to steal the spotlight from the clothes.

Kate has a definite market though and she's certainly cashed in on it. She's making a TON of money right now - I think she's banked a couple of million already and she's barely out of her teen-hood. And people are still talking about her. Clearly she's doing something right.
She is perfect
Too heavy? Where the hell are her hips???

She looks just fine to me. Some of these runway models look like anorexic drug addicts.
I can't even believe we're having this topic.
Looks just fine to me though I'd need an up close, personal inspection to be sure.

(yeah, right, like that's ever going to happen).
Yes, it's stupid and ridiculous - "people in the fashion industry in girl not looking boyish enough shock"

Yes, she is stunningly beautiful but in the model industry beautiful isn't that rare a commodity. If you have to choose between a dozen models for a cover or a photoshoot you will be amazed at what you will use as criteria for rejecting the unlucky eleven.

Well in my book Kate Upton is just gorgeous and we all hope that at sometime in our lives we could look like that. If at a time she, like most of us, has a little too much of something, most of us would trade for that any minute.

I have never understood why woman's wear manufactures use those almost skeleton girls as models. Not many I know look like those girls. In fact, many of them look downright unhealthy!

Until I met a woman who had been in the fashion world for years and she claims that Valentino or Dior would never want a girl that has a body that would draw the attention from the cloths. I do not know if this is true or not, but it makes good sense to this Lushie.

Why not use models that look like the potential buyer, like us?
Kate is gorgeous!! In every way. She is very natural looking. Curves are very sexy, Thank God! She can join me for a "meal" anytime she likes!!
Nikki like you she could join me for anything she wants!!!!!!
She is fine, she actually looks like a real woman. I agree with Nikki and 1nympholes those runway models do not reflect what real women look like and I think they give young girls a unreal expectation of what it "beautiful" in the publics eye. Some of these young women will do anything to attain that model image even to the point of harming themselves both physically and mentally to get there. Anyway body image is not what excites me, confidence is sexy. A confident woman is proud of her body and exudes sexiness...... just sayin....Kate you are sexy as hell.
mmmm ... she is soooooooooooo yummmmmmmmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyy ....
She is stunningly beautiful no doubt about it!!
She looks like a sex-pot to me. Meaning, absolutely, drop dead gorgeous with the right curves in the right places. I'd snuggle up with her all day every day over stick-figure fashioned models. Models, I might add, I don't really find all that attractive. At all really. They aren't. In fact, I see more beautiful girls on a college campus day in and day out. Women need muscle tone and some hips. Not skin and bones.

W/e. I don't really get how the fashion biz makes all that much money anyway and never will. Hardly anyone in this world can afford that shit. Then again, I've always been of the opinion, da fuck you need to spend thousands for on clothes anyway? Like cars, the parts and material don't cost much and it sure as hell ain't the ones putting that stuff together that are the ones making much money off it.
god no!!! she is perfect! love her in si swimsuit!!! real women finally!!
