Guys have you had this happen to you? A young woman gets to the door first but she holds it open for you. I'm old-fashioned and was raised to open the door for a woman. OK if she is there first she should go in first, but several times and I mean several times, I've had a woman hold the door open for me, even though I was 10 even 15 behind her. I don't like being treated like an old man. I am still capable of opening a door myself.

Don't sweat the small stuff. Pay it forward next time, if you can hobble to the door ahead of the next youngster.

Maybe she just wants to see your handsome smile of appreciation. And watch your bum as you go in front.

Well, to me, if a young lady opens the door for me, I am not offended. It gives me a chance to talk to her. I do not think of it as a "too old" type thing. I just believe they are being nice... I usually just take the door and let them go ahead of me.

Maybe her opening the door might lead to other doors being opened for me .......

Hey, it could happen.......

To be honest, so are the ladies that we open the door for.

Ciao
There are times she is kneeling out of obedience, reverence and respect. Those are the times it is okay to stand above her. But when she is kneeling because the weight of the world is just too heavy to bear … that is when You should be kneeling beside her.

Yes, I have had a woman offer to hold the door for me. But I simply tell them that it isn't right and I was raised better than that and I take the door to allow them to go in first. Haven't had one yet refuse me!

Its a small act of kindness on someone's part when they hold the door for you. Thanks them and get on with the rest of your day.

This. Where I live nowadays, you hold the door open for the person behind you regardless of age or gender and you thank someone who does the same for you.

I not only hold the door open for women but for anyone who not too far behind me. To me it's a simple courtesy. If anyone, including a young woman, held a door open for me I'd accept it as just that. An act of courtesy and thank them for it.

She probably told her friends and husband that some weird nerd took the door from her and tipped his fedora as he watched her walk in.

Women and doors are great. One should however, behave in a gentlemanly fashion.

here's the rule i go by. if i get to the door first, and someone else is coming through, i hold it open. man, woman, old, young, doesn't matters. it's not about age or gender, it's just about being polite to another human being.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

I would hope manners apply..I will always thank that person holding the door...So many times I see these high falootin all about themselves wads of wasting oxygen, never just say thanks..It is really sad..
A few times I would secretly hope the door would slip and bust those folks face..

LOL, forget the silly binary gender based etiquettes of the past, it's 2017. Just hold the door for any person behind you.

I have to agree with elizabethblack post there are plenty of friendly people out there who enjoy doing nice things for others. Her parents must have taught her good manners

i'm sorry that you feel that way. i'm quite sure that when you hold the door open for a woman you're not subliminally saying that you don't think she can figure out how to do it for herself. some could possibly take it that way; luckily, most don't. in this day and age random acts of kindness should be appreciated with a smile and thank you - they're too far and in between.

Say. Her. Name.

“I insist” is short and to the point

Although if I’m in a hurry I will often say: “after me” and take the lead. “Beep! Beep!” Works well too.

Not very often do I behave that way tho. I can only see myself saying that is the building I was in, caught fire and wanted to pass by the women/children swiftly.

The real problem would be; if once you arrived at the door, she slammed it in your face, and flipped you the bird!

My sentiments exactly. Spot on. Thank you. We dont all need or look for ulterior motives. Just be kind.

I hold the door for anyone who is behind me. Sometimes a man is uncomfortable about it and I don't argue with them, because in the end, I'm trying to be kind. Making someone else uncomfortable isn't kind.

Did you know that the door opening practice started because women's dresses were so huge, they literally couldn't get the doors open for themselves? This was only in the upper classes, because the poorer women's skirts weren't so big.

The number of things to get pissed about is in the thousands. Folks being kind to you should not be one of them. BTW, the 19th century is long gone and good riddance.

I once dated a very pretty and refined fashion model. She drilled into me that opening doors was what gentlemen did. It's hard to break that habit.
