I've always called my knickers, "knickers, undies or pants"

When reading stories and forums here the most common word for them is "panties". Nobody I know calls them "panties". Some guys I know call them "knickers" Why is that?

Does the word "panties" have more of a sexual connotation than "knickers"?

It's a regional colloquialism. Some areas call them one thing, others call them something else. I know what someone means when they say 'knickers' but I personally don't know anyone that actually uses that word in conversation. I hear 'panties' or 'underwear' far more than anything else.

In my personal opinion, 'knickers' sounds a bit more casual than 'panties' so it could be argued that the latter has a more sexual connotation but it wouldn't surprise me if many out there disagree.

I can’t think of a good tagline so this will have to do. Suggest a better one for me?

Of that list, I would most use panties or maybe undies. I might also use more specific terms (briefs, hipsters, etc.) to more precisely define what is being worn.

I know the term "knickers" but it is not widely used in Canada (my part at least) so I tend to not use it much myself.

DEFINITELY "Knickers!"

"Pull your knickers down..."

"Can I take your knickers off?"

"Nice Knickers..."

It's OBVIOUSLY a generational thing, BUT, they're her knickers... (I like THE SOUND of the word...)

"Panties" is OKAY and I USE the word often... (But KNICKERS is just better!!!)

Okay.

Re-Read this post...

"Nice panties..." (Anyone could say THAT!)

"Nice knickers..." (There's just a FRISSON of something ELSE there!!!)

Panties for me, knickers make me think of the pink satin bloomers my grandmother used to wear - only saw them hanging in the washing line.

Many countries have different names and some of them are kind of different. For example, in Latinamerica we call them pantaletas, bragas or bombachas depending on the country but I think that all the world understand what are you saying if you say Panties.

I always thought "knickers" was a Brit thing. That's what I call them. But if I'm wearing some black Lacey frilly bits of nothing I think that would be panties. "Undies" is common here (Oz) but I don't like it. It just sounds so...grey. Ewww

The word "underpants" is just a no-go. That's a deal breaker for me right there.

I'm an American; here, "panties" is the default word and by far the most commonly used. I was shockingly far along in life before I realized that American women don't use "underwear" as a general term for anything worn under clothing. Here that word seems exclusively to mean, well, "panties."

"Knickers" is British or, I suppose, a term used anywhere the Union Jack ever flew. (Except here, of course, because America.)

I like the word, though.

Thats just Saturday evenings for me when I hit the singles club. The rest of the time its boxers.

And yes in the UK they are *knickers* (not to be confused with the chocolate bar with peanuts in)!

I know this is "Ask the Guys," however I never heard the word knickers until coming to Lush.

I live in the USA and have always heard of them called "Panties." I have also heard underwear, undies.

Since coming here, people in the UK call them (Knickers, Pants.)

I just giggle because I think knickers sounds like something for old women. Knickers sounds very old fashioned to me.

Just my 2 cents.

I was curious so I looked up my Slang Dictionary. (Cassell)
Panties - Pantaloons -(US) The underwear worn by a prison homosexual.
Pants man - (Aust) A womaniser.
Knickers (to you) -(an exclamation) " Rubbish - you must be joking." General negation of the preceding speakers opinion, demand etc.

I have no idea then what I am wearing - possibly pants, undies, cottontails. Certainly not Panties or Knickers.
I would not know how many times I have been told to get my knickers off. I have probably replied - "And knickers to you too."

I do admit both are a common terms for woman s underwear.

Fascinating.

another woman adding her i'm from the us and am used to hearing them called panties. i'm familiar with knickers as well though. in my opinion, panties is sexier. i'd much rather hear 'baby, slip off your panties'. knickers sounds juvenile to me.

Say. Her. Name.

Yet another woman adding to this thread. And being from the UK, women's underwear is traditionally knickers in a practical sort of way. So as Nia points out, panties is a more seductive term for erotic literature. Unless you're a kinky knicker perv like Stephen... *runs*

Knickers and undies are used more then panties around here, as far as I know.

I HATE 'UNDIES' and (puke) 'Underpants'...

I DID find something DELICIOUS in your post...

The Girl wears 'KNICKERS' as a matter of course... (Personally I'd call her cover KNICKERS...) BUT... (And I LOVE THIS...) APPARENTLY when she wears SEXY ONES she calls THEM 'PANTIES'...

(It is for LITTLE REASONS like these that MEN fall FUCK-OFF in love with Women.)

I think "panties" are a North American term for ladies' "underwear".

I know my UK family and friends use "knickers" for ladies' panties and "pants" for men's underwear.

I use "underwear" or "boxers" for the men's equivalent.

Lady M, you should probably keep those locked behind closed doors. If any of your readers see those I think it might conjure up images they don't want in their heads. On their shoulders.

That up there, once seen it can never be unseen.

I always wear knickers day to day..... but special occasions they become panties.

I like to think a guy will remove my panties, but not that he'd pull down my knickers (laughing now)

Isn't panties the American term and knickers the UK term? Either works for me when reading.

So have I. My personal choice, women wearing men's boxers. I stand corrected, but if I were a designer of women's underwear I would market boxers to women's taste
