Describe your ideal wedding - the dress, the ring, the location/style, what's important and what's not.

If you've already been married before - did you get your ideal wedding the first time around. Is there anything that you wish you'd have done differently if you were able to do it over?

Guys can answer too, if they have an opinion on what they like or don't like.
The only thing that is important is that you chose the right spouse. Everything else is a distant second.

I do have a couple pointers: invite more of the people you want to hang with and less of those that you feel an obligation to invite...and that includes relatives.

Don't feel overly obligated to walk around your reception making sure that you talk to everyone. Focus on making the day and night memorable with your spouse.

Elegant but simple is better than fancy.

Take several moments throughout the day to soak it all in and count your blessings.
Baptist or other religious or civil ceremony that keeps the actually wedding service short and sweet. The walk down the aisle, the vows, the kiss, and the first announcement of husband and wife are great but everything else is just filler.

Then a Catholic style reception with lots of food and alcohol.

The best advice I can give is don't take your wedding day too seriously. I know it is a day some women dream of since they were little girls but something is going to go wrong on your wedding day and if you obsess over it that's all you're going to remember about your wedding day. Just relax and enjoy the ride.
If everything goes well in WA state, you can ask me again in the fall ;)

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

I'm not into the whole large ceremony princess theme.

My boyfriend and I do not many friends (we keep to ourselves we only have maybe five friends between us, others are more like aquaintences or friends of the family) or a big family and I did discuss this with him.

Anyway I would like a church ceremony and then have a BBQ in the backyard. Nothing fancy really for me.

While visiting friends in a different state, my best friend hinted at boyfriend about a ring. He said "I discussed this with Sirene about whatever stones I find on my property (he is into gold panning at the moment) I would make a ring for her. And she said no."

So apparently he asked me to marry him in the form of asking to make me a ring. Uh I don't remember the ring/marriage conversation.
I like the idea of a Pagan wedding. The usual exchange of rings - usually simple ones is observed as well as making simple vows. It is about uniting and asking the Earth Mother to bless two people's love. They do this by handfasting - tying the people's hands together with a ribbon. It is also not so much about exuberance as it is about simplicity and above all love. An additional though little practiced part of the ceremony can be "jumping the broom" which is exactly what it sounds like - a broom is held aslant in front of the door with the handle on the doorpost and head on the doorstep. The groom would be first to jump it and then the bride, this is to officialise the wedding and establish a new household.
Beautifully gorgeous sunny day; the bells ringing from the cathedral; the pews packed with loved ones from near and far; the groom, immaculately presented waits expectantly at the end of the aisle with his Best Man.

Finally, the organ begins to play; the groom turns to the doorway, sunlight cascading through the open double oak doors and the bride, respendent in her white gown, steps into view on her fathers arm. The bride begins to walk down the aisle as all eyes turn to her, the suns rays now casting warm tendrils of light around her form creating an ethereal silhouette - it's magical. It is all about the bride.

The ceremony, the words, whilst important, occupy but an instant of this precious day. The couple needed and wanted to solidify their love before everyone and celebrate in a way that will create memories for a lifetime.

Pronounced man & wife there follows a brief carriage ride where, to indulge the groom, pictures are taken atop an ancient fortress that overlooks the tranquil blue waters of their home. A majestic backdrop. Don't dally too long, the guests await you at the feast that goes on long after the bride and groom retreat to consumate their love.

That was my day 22 years ago. It was just perfect.

I think my wedding went very well. It was what she wanted and I was very happy with that. It was in a fairly large Presbyterian Church with a classical gothic style architecture, lots of classic dark wood and all stained glass windows. There were very large candles burning along the sides and no electrical light was used. She wore a white shoulderless wedding dress (showed a lot of her back too) with one of those white thingies in her hair that hung in the back, and the dress had a fairly long train (isn't that what it is called?) Forgive me for not knowing what you call all that stuff. I was actually mentally numb for a lot of this. haha I wore a classic black tuxedo and bow tie. (She had convinced me to let my hair grow fairly long for the wedding.) It was a large wedding. One cool thing was that it was very late on a Saturday afternoon and the sun was very low in the sky causing a really nice mood enhancing lighting effect as it shown through the stained glass windows. We had to kneel on a pillow in front on the minister for the vows. I think we each had 10 attendants (bridesmaids & groomsmen.) I guess it was very traditional. Flower girls, ring boy, and more, all coming down the aisle before she did, being escorted by her dad. Her mom & my mom cried. They'd both been wanting this for a long long time.

The music. There was a string ensemble of violins and cellos (or as I like to call them a fiddle band. haha) playing along with organ and piano. They did all classical music and of course Wagner's Bridal March when she came in.

We left the church under a hail of rice and the car was all decorated with streamers, balloons with Just Married and other messages written on it.

We had a huge reception at a country club, using 2 party rooms, 2 separate bands playing. The older people pretty much ended up in one room with the band that played lots of 70s & 60s rock and most of the younger people ended up in the room with the more contemporary band playing. One of my best buddies and I had practiced for weeks performing a song. So we both played guitar and I sang lead, he backed me up, and I sang a song for my wife from the stage. She either cried because she liked it or maybe she cried because my performance was out of key. haha They told me I did good but who knows? We had 2 wedding cakes, a bride's cake and a groom's cake. My groom's cake was red, black and white with a large UGA "G" logo on it. Hers was very frilly looking with all the traditional stuff on it. We of course did slam some cake into each other's face but not outrageously or anything. Everyone danced a lot and drank a lot at the reception and it lasted a long time. We had a very large crowd of our friend's there, especially our friend's from UGA. A large group from my college fraternity made it.

Oh yes, the evening before the wedding we had a large formal dinner after the last rehearsal and there were lots of toasts and speeches. Some of my old college buddies may have pushed it just to the edge of good tastes with their toasts. But nothing too bad.
i want a fairy tale wedding. big a beautiful.
everyone girl dreams of her wedding. i have been dreaming of mine since i was 10.
Well it's in the initial stages of planning but here we go:

It's a beautiful night, it's not too hot but warm enough that our guests feel comfortable wearing shorts and a short sleeve shirt. The lights come up and illuminate a vineyard in Napa (or Sonoma) Valley. The wine starts to flow freely as the 30 guests mingle amongst themselves.

As the groom walks from the main entrance - Jason Mraz sits down and starts to play an acoustic set. The guests start to take their seats, while the groom and his best man (his future wife's son) make their way to the alter.

The anticipation is growing as the song "I'm yours" starts. Everyone knows the bride is about to make her way down the aisle. The maid of honor (her sister) starts down, finally allowing the guests to have their first look at the bride. She is in a stunning gown that flows freely in the summer's wind - classy and appropriate but not too traditional. People start to cheer as she starts dancing down the aisle and makes sure to "high five" Jason.

The ceremony is short and sweet, the lovers kiss and cue the music again. Everyone crowds the aisles and starts to dance with the newly married couple.

Wine and laughter flow in copious amounts - life is great!

Strapless wedding dress.

The ring the setting from tiffany and co.

Modern Beach side fairy tale wedding while still keeping it classical probably around October November time period Somewhere warm like florida or thailand etc.

Mostly a small private wedding event with close friends and family.

First dance song something along the lines of maybe Find me by Boyce avenue Then the rest of the music by a Dj instead of a band to keep it modern.

Professional Wedding photographer and videographer so That the entire moments of the wedding are captured forever.

Chocolate wedding cake nothing to big or ridiculous just something that people would actually enjoy to eat and see as well.

And That's my perfect wedding for if i ever get married.
Do what works for you, screw the expectations of everyone else; family, friends, whatever.

Throw conventions out the window if that is what you truly want and desire. If that means doing it on the quiet side and sending announcements afterwards, go for it.

If it means an elaborate set up that nearly drives you crazy and causes strife amongst those closest to you, but it's what you want, leap, don't look. Looking will cause problems, leaping will bring out your highly refined survival instincts.

Speak for yourself....I haven't even thought about my ideal wedding let alone 'dreamed' about it.

A sapphire ring would catch me a lot quicker than a diamond ring would though....just sayin' boys
I think my dream wedding consists of me and him, someplace new together, plus whatever officiant is necessary for a marriage to be official. I wouldn't object to a traditional wedding, maybe. And I have had times where something like that seemed 'ideal', though I've never wanted a huge wedding, and probably never will.

Having been married twice I'd say the perfect wedding is getting drunk and celebrating on the day the divorce is finalized.

Priceless...... sad, but priceless

perfect wedding with the perfect mate smile
I've always pictured it someday as being just the two of us on a beach in the Carribean, the heat would require minimal clothing which I really like the idea of, the ring would be something you'd find buried in an antique store - I love anything with a history behind it - we'd have written our own vows and when we returned from our weeks in paradise we'd have a massive booze up for all our family and friends.

As you can tell, I haven't thought much about this at all! biggrin
Having suffered the agonies of friends' weddings (I always get roped in to do flowers, tiaras, dresses, decor, service planning, photos, etc), if I ever fell in love and we wanted to get married, I would hope he would be happy with just the legal bit, me, him, two witnesses, and then throwing a big party for all our mates. At the end of the party, we'd just say, "By the way...".

I don't like a lot of fuss, and other people seem to want what they want more than letting the bride and groom have what they want. All my mates who had big weddings lost all the detail and couldn't even remember who was there! I like to think I would be able to have a big wedding if my fella was desperate for it, but I wouldn't at all be happy about it, not even just our families.

We've both been married before, so we decided to have a truly schlocky wedding. Hooked up with a wedding mill in Gatlinburg TN (the Vegas of the east when it comes to weddings) and had a non religious (we're both atheist) on a mountaintop. The witnesses were the photographer and our dog. Afterward we went back and ate the supermarket wedding cake (part of the wedding package) in our camper.

It was great!

After it was all over, we told her daughter and my son.
*blushes* in a perfect world, instead of a ring on my finger, she'll put a collar on me. honestly, like Lady X, it will be small - just a couple of very close friends and family, if that, and it won't be in a church, but somewhere outdoors on a sunny day. i sort of want a Disney wedding, but i'm not quite sure what i mean by that, either - talking animals, for one. and tinkerbell and fireworks? LOL

Similar to Annie, I'm thinking of a beach wedding with only closest friends and family. Fun and flirty (maybe cocktail length) Marchesa dress, barefeet, casual linens and white shirts for the guys (no ties!), torches and moonlight, steel drums and bonfire, grilled seafood, champagne and beachy cocktails. Casual party atmosphere, warm breezes and crashing ocean waves. Maybe a midnight skinny-dip!

I'd never do the formal church, bridal party and reception thing with speeches. I can barely stand going to those myself.

Either that or a quickie in Vegas and then splurge the $ on a fab honeymoon and/or creating my dream Sex Room in the new house.

*laughter* well, we will need a touch of class, won't we. clothing will be optional, btw, and we'll insist you bring a date - that said, be prepared to share! ;)

Don't worry, you can still have a 'classy' naked orgy at a wedding... it's the modern option-alternative to long boring speeches. smile
My folks eloped & were married in a church in Miami. No friends, no family, almost zero ceremony.
But they did honeymoon @ Beaver Lake. They'll be hitched for 54 years in April, for whatever that means.

Every woman I ever discussed this topic with...wanted the huge wedding. Meh...with a bunch of that.
The same GQP demanding we move on from January 6th, 2021 is still doing audits of the November 3rd, 2020 election.
My perfect wedding wouldn't need materialistic things, just to be with the guy I love... and then some great fucking ;)
This universe isn't the same without you...

When I married, it was the fairy-tale type of wedding. The actual wedding ceremony was held outside on the grounds of a manison originally built in 1700's (although it was re-built several times). We were by a stream with waterfall and the mist from the waterfall almost looked like a bridal veil. The wedding reception was also held there. We did cocktail hour outside then the dinner inside. The whole thing was wonderful!! So I guess the only thing I would have changed was the GROOM!!

If I were ever to re-marry, I would want a small very private ceremony with just immediate family and a few very special friends. Maybe on a beach in the Caribbean or Hawaii, then maybe a Luau type reception!!
