I had someone write some very short stories and poems about me once. It was incredibly flattering and soooo erotic too!
A well written story with realist character development. Like a fine wine I want to savor it a bit at a time. If I can identify with the characters then it is a real plus. A great story makes you part of it.
Nicely crafted details, believable characters, and lately - flirtation, leading to lovely leisurely seduction, because of desperation.
Sex between characters that I enjoy and care about. If the characters aren't engaging it doesn't matter how many adjectives and adverbs a writer includes, the sex will still be mindless and mechanical.
I like a story that takes its time. The characters ought to be people with full lives; they ought to be completely distinctive. There's nothing so boring (and confusing) as reading a story where all the characters speak in exactly the same way. If the writer can't do dialog well enough for me to know who's talking without an explicit "Sandra said, 'x y z'" then the rest of the story is likely to be crap, too.
I'm repeating myself, I know, but the pace of the story is very important to me. I want the folks involved to be thinking about sex, wanting sex, perhaps craving sex for a long time before anyone's sticking anything into anyone else. Anticipation is everything.
Vivid characters, detailed descriptions and lots of foreplay (written foreplay that is) before the main act.
A good story line with teasing, exhibitionism and a slow build up to the main event. We both enjoy reading about women discovering or pursuing their bi side and letting their inhibitions go.
I like well written and developed stories where I can emotionally relate with the characters. I get bored real quick with the same old story lines of the woman with gargantuan boobs and the guys with the ten inch dicks. I find it more interesting if the characters display real human characteristics with insecurities confidence issues like a majority of people do. If the story's plot grabs me in the first few paragraphs I'm hooked.
As far as subject matter i pretty much read most subjects in the straight categories. Not putting down gays. Just doesn't interest me.

I like exceptionally well-written sex scenes, which make you feel like you're there. I like to to be wooed by the writer and titillated by beautifully written erotica. Alas, writers who can achieve this are few and far between.
I chose stories first by topic/genre. I like a large variety of topics, themes and genres. Some that I prefer are student-teacher, babysitters, young and old and (father-daughter).
What I look for even more specifically is details. I love detail about the sex, appearances, characters and sexual acts. The more detail, the better! I also look for good exposition (introduction) because it sets the stage for the story. I only like several paragraphs, and hate it when 80% of the story's content is non-sexual activity. So if the first 10 paragraphs were just describing the lead up to the sex and only the last 2 or 3 paragraphs have the sexual acts.
These are a few little things that spark my attention, almost always
*when they give the penis length
*when the ages of the characters are said
*if there is a lot of dirty talk done between the characters
*description of sexual positions
*when a girl is described as she is being fingered in the story
The most important thing for a smooth story, is for good grammar, punctuation and spelling. I write, and I always re-read stories to make sure that all the pieces match up, the spelling is correct and that there are no obvious grammatical errors. But hey, even my stories have errors in them.
The stories that make you feel like you are there. Has to have an opening and a build up
When I get excited reading it is usually due to a good set of characters in a descriptive story long enough for the imagination to picture it. I remember things visually which is what I hope to bring to my stories. Most of my writing is based upon reality and memories which are very detailed. I like to read that way as well because the imagination view is often better the real view as it has embellishments and actions one desires. I have been reading for a long time and have found the solace of loneliness in masturbation. Reading and seeing pictorial acts are the fuel to excitement for me. That is if there is no one around!

Basic elements of plot structure: Introduce characters (including their fears or desires), then disrupt their everyday routines. Characters should be challenged and frustrated (interpersonal or intrapersonal) and have to expend some significant effort to overcome these challenges. Suspense should be built, tension sustained, until a climactic (but believable) resolution is inevitable. And there should be some kind of character development as a result of these experiences.
Sometimes, authors are far too easy on their characters. They just give them whatever they want without them having to earn it, like spoiled children with over-protective parents.
Don't believe everything that you read.
The realism,the thought that this could be me. Its why I enjoy reading stories mostly from female point of view.
When reading erotica, character development and plots with suspense/anticipation turns me on. I love when characters are well thought out and the actions (even if fantasy/sci-fi) makes sense for the world that they live in. Also, when the author is inviting me into the world created by vivid description and unique dialogue, "hearing" the character's voices along the author's.
Sexy dialogue. Connection is all.
It is not the genre as much as the style and quality of writing. Most of the elite writers on lush have this in common. A good story and plot is only half of it. Delivering it is the other half.
Not too fussy, just gimme sex. Sex, sex, sex, sex, seeeex!

Lots of dialogue which describes the feelings of the participants. Women, in the middle of a shag, moaning aaaaaahhhhh and oooooohhhhhh and nothing else is off putting. I want to hear a lady say "oh that,s nice, mmm that feels even better, touch me just here, yes a little harder, now move your fingers a little, yes that takes my breath away. I like it slow and easy first then you can speed up. I can feel you pushing in ah and it feels wonderful."
