Over 250 people have taken it so far - which is awesome smile

I've started compiling stats (the nitty gritty ones like breaking interests down by Free Reader VS Buyer - and gender - and so on, so forth. When I get finished I think some of you will find the results surprising and fascinating like I do.

Top 3 interests for males who buy: Literotica (more serious pieces), Anal, Sci-fi/Futeristic.

Top 3 interest for females who buy: Bondage, BDSM, Fantasy.

Just took the survey. Was stumped at the favorite author question though, because I seem to be fickle. I suppose it all depends on what I am in the mood to read at any given time.

Quite a few people said things like 'I can't make up my mind - so many good ones' which is cool.

With that question I was wanting to see the scope of responses: When taking an erotic readership survey - even though non-erotica is encouraged - what will people say?

Most say nothing and skip it (to be expected and not a problem). 1/4 of all surveyed filled in all the text based questions - it's actually rather interesting to see the number of non-erotica referenced (characters and stories). It shows that erotica readers both enjoy erotica - but many non-erotica story concepts as well. It looks to be a blend of 50/50 - covering all genres of fiction - which is awesome. smile

Just for fun - I'm going to find images of all those stories and authors referenced and make a blog entry just on that.

I've been crunching numbers for days in preparation for a series of blog articles that will summarize things.

I'm breaking it down in this way:

3 groups:
1) Everyone overall. 2) Males. 3) Females.
I included 'transgendered' as an option for gender - but only one person selected that so I won't break that down until more than 5 surface (anonymity and a reasonable pooling bracket)

Each groups is analyzed in this way:

A) Overall popularity of themes and concepts.

B) Overall popularity of story formats (ebook / printed book / audio book, etc)

C) Overall popularity of book length (short / novel / series / etc)

D) Free readers: How do concepts and themes break down here? Preferred format and story length? (2 questions helped me sort out who strictly reads online. Mainly: someone is classified as a 'free reader' when they state *ONLY* that they both: A: only get their books from online sources. B: most of their stories are free.

E) Buyers: How do concepts and themes break down here? Preferred format and story length?

F) How long have people in these three groups been reading? Now - I realized, when crunching that, that the average reader (more than 50%) have been reading for 'more than 6 years' - so I separated out that demographic into the above pools (length/format/theme/concept - by gender and overall). Further: how does this relate to Free Vs Buyer?

G) Age: At first I didn't really care - but then I realized that MOST people identify as being 17-27 and over 45. Less than 1/4 of all repondants identified as being between 28 and 45. . . .So I'm looking at those two larger groups to see what their interests and preferences are, as well. And again: how does this relate to FREE VS Buyer.

And I can break things down in other ways - but I think that would satisfy the interests of bother free authors here at lush and other places - and authors who sell. Some of us do both and it's important that we see the difference in our audience pools.

The benefit in me - just an author - doing this survey and breaking it all down is that people can ask me to contrast/compare something - and I can take some time and get it done. Unlike big corporations (like an erotica publisher) I'm willing and able to do this.

New here, but I took the survey. Didn't really have good answers for the three optional questions at the end, but maybe I will if I spend enough time here. Great idea, by the way.

I'm always curious as to what people want when it comes to reading erotica. Some things are just hard to find out. It occurred to me I could create my own survey and ask all the questions I'd like. Then I can post the findings to my blog every now and then.

The survey had 15 questions - some multiple choice, some are text based (for fun, because I'm insanely curious). ALL are options. You can skip them if you don't have an answer.
