Light dances upon the rippling surface of
Deep, cool green waters that
Pool at the feet of the willow grove.
Sundrops kiss your smiling face
As shimmers of gold grace your skin.
The summer sea breeze
Carries a giggling melody through
The coastal valley where
Butterflies flitter
From wildflower to clover
And whisper to the bees with their wings
As they mingle together amidst the wild honeysuckle.
The distant surf beneath nearby cliffs
Hushes itself against the shore,
Fingering over storm-worn pebbles
And bubbling back in a fizz
Of scattering, sparkling gems
That veil the sand and await paddling feet to tickle.
But here we lie on our backs
Beneath the willows,
Emerald depths smoothing languid over our toes
As we hold our hands in a gentle squeeze,
And watch the dragonflies throw tiny rainbows
Over our heads with a backdrop
Of lush leaves and a sapphire blue sky.
And when we turn
In this honey-hot afternoon
To gaze upon our happy faces,
Then our smiles become the summer sun
With broiling heat of rising passion,
And our lips become the summer breeze
With the touch of shaking fervour,
And our kisses become the summer wildflowers
So sweet and tangy, a delight to our hearts.
And lie we here in the summer afternoon,
With love-making and whispers
Running across our skin,
And the willows in the summer sun shall weep for joy.
