Come and love me in the heat
On sultry summer nights
After that fire opal sun
Has slid down out of sight

Then we’ll sneak out to the pool
Barefoot on cement
Holding warmth that earlier
Would burn against our skin

But now the feel is sensual
Toasty, rough and hard 
The pungent smell of juniper
Wafts throughout the yard

Mixed with jasmine blossoms 
Heady in the heat
We free our bodies from our clothes
And let ourselves be seen

Then slip into the water 
As waves from ripples grow 
They lick against the poolside
Sloshing to and fro

The water moves us gracefully
Submerged, then lifted up
Floating naked on our backs
Suspended in our thoughts

The nighttime air is velvety
As we face the sky
While beneath us, liquid cool 
Above, through palms, stars shine

Now the weight of scorching day
Has vanished with the light
And soon the start of passion play
Begins our summer night.
