I don’t know what you are to me,
But you do give me joy,
You’re not my crush or eye candy
You’re not my lover boy.
I have a boyfriend as you know,
We’re even not quite friends?
We’ve known each other for some time, so,
I guess, well that depends.
It’s when I see you walking past,
Your headphones on your head,
My spirits do rise up quite fast,
With no words even said.
It’s when you smile and turn away,
No wish for conversation,
I marvel that you’re no cliché,
Creating admiration.
The way you stand and hold yourself,
The presence that you wear,
It’s like you’re on some higher shelf,
But for others you still care.
You rarely act affectionate,
But really you’re so kind,
Well maybe you’re just obstinate,
But kindness I do find.
Willing you are to lend a hand,
When someone asks you to,
From them a thanks you will demand,
But then no more is due.
So even though you scorn and mock
And walk without a care,
You’re different from this teenage flock
They don’t even compare.
Thus when I hear you laugh or speak,
I smile tenderly,
For you are different and unique,
You ‘waken joy in me.
