Look to the stars to find just who you are
That same space runs through your veins
Powered by the sun that shines from afar
Burning through the dark and lighting your shame
Up and above you, the fire it dances
Brightness captured in sideways glances
Close your eyes to see if it still makes sense
But what’s found there breaks in to fragments
The pieces are ceasing
to complete this releasing
of anguish and howling and persistent defeating
of memories of family and of constantly beating yourself up
until you chucked it in
tossed it towards the bin
bounced it off the rim and you fell instead
Headfirst into the dread
until you forgot
To look to the stars to find just what you’re not
You wish the shame didn’t ebb through your veins
That the sun would rise and burn it away
But it sits, it endures, like the cloy of your name
Stuck in my throat with only myself to blame.
