I learned what “love” meant 
The first moment your eyes met mine, 
Their sweet chocolatey brown drew me in like a hungry child 
Until my very soul melted.

Your warm angelic smile caused my heart to flutter 
While the whole of creation stood suspended in time, 
That moment I decided to ask both: your name and a date.

You said your grandma would kill you
If you went out with somebody
She hadn’t yet met, so
For an entire month we dated in secret, 
Meeting behind Mama’s Pizza parlor
Where I would steal a kiss before slowly walking home hand in hand.

Our love Grew 
As we danced and laughed and sang summer away,
Soon autumn brought us new classes
And my first heartbreak....
When on your birthday, you said “goodbye.”

Though our love lasted just three months,
Never have I felt such love again.
