Please see me and love me for who I am
Perfection I have found unattainable
I am flawed and I am damaged
But the worn edges make me beautiful

My life has not always been easy
Sadness and pain have become familiar
Hard lessons taught me to find strength within
Only then could I see a path that was clear

Through all of the heartbreaks and loss
I never let my faith in love falter
Though it seemed unfair I persevered
Even in the desert one can find water

Some that I had trusted lied to me
Others I loved deeply all left
I had to learn it was not always my fault
Though that's hard when you're always bereft

Why do we surrender our self image
So readily to another person
Why don't we see that we get to decide
Our own worth is ours to determine

So I believe now my flaws make me beautiful
Even if damaged my heart is a treasure
If I put it all on the line again then maybe
This new love will withstand rough weather

I found this lovely man by happenstance
He helped show me the error of my ways
Instead of focusing on what was in front of me
I was confusing forever with today

We are brought up as girls dreaming of a prince
That would rescue us from lives of despair
Our prince would rush us to a magical kingdom
Where the wedding would be a wondrous affair

No castle is needed, nor a fairy tale kingdom
No guarantees come with a lover’s vow
We can still say I will love you forever
But the only time that is certain is now

I’m not giving up on happily ever after
But now I only listen to my heart
I accept my imperfections, as does he
But in truth they play a very small part
