He walked with purpose today as his heart began to race
The sweat began to form on his forehead
He rounded the corner and the cafe' was in sight
He looked down at his watch to check the time
She would be here in less than five minutes
He took a seat facing away from the door
He smelled that scent as she walked towards him
Her hand briefly touching his shoulder as she passed
He stood as she sat down
He sat down and reached across the table for her hand
Why hadn't he noticed it before
There it was all bright and shiny
His heart sank as he withdrew his hand
What is wrong
Oh it is just that I didn't notice your wedding ring
She put her right hand over her left and lowered her head
I am a widower and thought you were single
I am flattered that you find me attractive
She said as she raised her head to look into his eyes
It was those fluttering lashes
That framed those soft brown eyes
He thought to himself that had caught my attention
He knew this could never be more than just a friendship
What seemed like hours passing and silence
He looked at his watch
He stood and told her he had an appointment
She just nodded and took a sip of her hazelnut latte'
As he walked towards the door
He looked back to see her tear a corner from her croissant
He thought to himself
That is one lucky guy
